I just had a chat on the Samsung website. Not surprisingly, they are playing dumb. Like when I asked if it was true, there was a long delay (like figuring out what to say). Then he said: "We do not get any reported issues as of now regarding the battery explosions of Note7." To which I said 'so you are saying these reports are not true?' To which he said "Yes Wayne, we do not have any reported issues." I think his nose started growing at that point.

I think that there is a lot of truth to it.

Samsung provided engadget the following statement on the matter:

In response to questions on Galaxy Note7, we are conducting a thorough inspection with our partners. We will share the findings as soon as possible. Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers.

Click on this site to read ZDNet's story on our exploding N7's. Evidently, there will be software available on the Samsung site with which to test your N7 to determine if the battery is likely to fireball on you. I get the feeling that we are on the early edge of this thing, but it looks like a global replacement program will kick off on September 19th. Of course, it's too early to expect Verizon to kick in their two bits on this, Hopefully we'll hear something sooner that we do with Android updates. . .

My 14-day return period ended two days ago. Personally, I think that Verizon should extend the return period for Note 7 owners who decide to go with another phone. This kind of defect would certainly justify that kind of action.

SUSCRA4 All of my Samsung phones have gotten hot while charging... sometimes while not charging as well. I upgraded to the Note 7 last week and I absolutely love it. It gets warm during charging, but not hot and not hotter than any other Samsung that I've owned. Other than getting warm while charging, it has not gotten warm or hot at any other time this past week.

That being said, I am only marginally concerned about this fire issue and as far as I am aware, the phones that were affected were using 3rd party chargers. Technology is a fluid thing and no batch of product can be without a few "lemons".

It looks to me that Samsung is taking appropriate action.After ensuring thatour phone is not one of the affected phones, they should either send us free additional chargers (one home, one car) to ensure we are not using 3rd party chargers or offer 50% off the Samsung store to purchase "official" chargers from them.

I myself have already purchased 3rd party chargers and USB C adapters on Amazon but they have not arrived yet. I am not taking the risk so unfortunately, I will have to go through the hassle of returning everything. Ugh.

Obviously, my main concern, while Samsung is scrambling to figure out what to do - is if we as consumers are uncomfortable with hanging on to our N7s, and Verizon will replace it for us - WHAT will Verizon replace it with? I read somewhere on of the other carriers is not only refunding for the phone but all accessories as well. Is this something Verizon is going to do? I mean there's no need for the accessories if you don't have the phone; especially if it's to no fault of your own.

So Verizon will waive the restock fee if returned/exchanged for another phone by 9/30. But what if I want to exchange for a verified 'good' new Note7 when those become available? If new production with quality control confirmation resumes, and Verizon will restock and exchange for 'good' phones, I'd rather wait for a Note7 swap then exchange for some other phone. It'd be nice to know if Verizon would honor that type of exchange beyond 9/30, when the good Note7 is available.

I called Verizon today, 9/02/2016 at 1:20PM (PST) and yes, Verizon will replace your current Note7, in-store for a cell phone of your choice; equal value or less with NO additional charges. I also asked if I waited out till the Note7 replacement phones are released by Samsung; could I do this as well. As of right now, yes; Verizon will still honer the recall and will except the exchange once the new Note7's have been released and received by Verizon.

Verizon is not certain if it will be mail-in or in-store once these replacement phones are released and sent to Verizon. Most likely will be excepted in-store.

If you are like me; planing on keeping the phone till more guidance is given and the replacements are released (hopefully - a week or two), just keep mind-full while charging your Note7. I advise maybe charge your phone in hour charges and not wait till the phone's battery is dead.

I waited out on my time to be able to exchange my Galaxy S6 for this Note7, and I'm not about to give it up!

Those are my thoughts exactly! I waited for this phone and i would like to trade it for another Note 7

After talking to Verizon on the phone, I was told that we could return the phones (by mail or at corporate store) and the restocking fee would be waived. You can either exchange the phone for a lesser phone (all are lesser at this point.....I assume for lesser monthly payments). Not mentioned, is the possibility of returning the Note 7 and using a device that you already have. In that way I don't have to pay the monthly cost of a slightly less expensive phone like the S7 Edge. It also makes me and those like me free agents with no device payments until the Note 7 is corrected. This gives us the chance to go back to other carriers or stay with Verizon. This also gives those of us who missed out on the Buy One Get One promotions (Best Buy or Costco for example) a second crack at it.

Just got off the phone with Samsung and Verizon. Verizon's stock is sold out and honestly, I wouldn't have trusted that these were the 'good' ones unless if they were able to trace a date code concerning the defective batteries. In the supply chain world, those units were already done a long time ago.

Both are clueless regarding this recall, eg the cause, how to determine a defective phone, when replacements will be available, the $25 gift card and who will cover what including accessories.

The initial call was with Samsung who then pointed me to Verizon. Verizon said they were out of stock and the only option was to exchange for a different phone. Or I wait because Samsung has not advised when/ if replacements will be provided.

TMobile's offer seems to be the best and on par with Samsung's. Verizon has the least to offer with only an exchange. So tired of Verizon being the most expensive with always the least to offer. I've been on the fence of going to Tmobile for a while, anyhow not relevant to go more into this here.

This is an inconvenience, but it has just officially been announced and they need to iron out the details. Though from the first incident, they've had plenty of time to figure this out while they were investingating the root cause.

The part that infuriated me was Samsung's and Verizon's irresponsibility of the process. Samsung did not go through a standard recall process, ie US Consumer Safety Product Commission. This requires we, consumers, 1. first know about this recall and 2. why/ cause & effect and what to do.

I found out from Verizon's customer service rep that Verizon does not intend to email/ notify customers with this device. I got lucky that a friend notified me and I've been following this since yesterday.

SAMSUNG and VERIZON: even though this is about a 0.1% occurrence (~35 devices reported), this is a critical one - causing harm or injury to a person. A notice should be going out to owners immediately so there is awareness and transparency of the issue. Couple this with the issues of defective USB-C cables (of multiple companies, haven't heard of Samsung having this issue), and you may have more unnecessary occurrences that may lead to injury or fire.

As a person who's extensive experience is in product development, this is disappointing and being executed poorly. This isn't something I would have expected from two giant corporations as these.

If safety is truly your concern, awareness is first.

At this point, there has been no extensive outreach from either Samsung or Verizon, no explanation of the root cause, or date codes or serial numbers that can help those figure out if they have a defective device.

And Verizon, to have a rep say there will be no email or letter going out to customers who own the device and that it will only be mentioned on the website is ridiculous due to the potential harm this may do to a person carrying the phone, one's home, or to one's children. There's not even a mention of it on your home page.

Ok, let's be rational here. Any device has the capability to get hot/explode/etcetera. I'll just leave that here. I don't see any irrational acts on any of the companies. They found the flaw, it takes to work on a fix; but they ARE fixing it.

As far as notification, no one has to send you an email. What about those who choose NOT to opt in to emails from companies? This has been talked about online and it's on the news now. It's no need to do an "we interrupt this broadcast for a special report." People would panic and be in mass hysteria, over.....a....phone.

Each company is handling it differently. All are allowing returns and exchanges, and honestly there may be nothing wrong with yours. It's gonna take time for a replacement. You even can activate an older device if you feel THAT strongly about it.

Yes, any LiIon powered device can explode depending on the design and safety mechanisms in the circuit, however the known occurrences are due to an acknowledged battery defect, announced by Samsung.

There are standard processes, for example the airbag recall from Honda, where the company makes an asserted effort to notify customers. With the official attempt as a letter to the customer, not an email.

You should Google cell phone battery injury to see the extent of the harm these devices can cause. I am not stating that these phones will cause these injuries, but I'm saying the potential harm should not be taken lightly, either.

Companies can track the BOM via serial numbers and should be able to identify which units have the defective battery.

I'm not promoting hysteria. I'm pointing out that the potential harm one of these devices can do should not be under-estimated and these companies should be more proactive on bringing awareness. Again I did not know until a friend reached out to me. Thank goodness for the press.

Unfortunately I do not own my older device as it was part of the tradein deal.

FYI, Sprint is offering a similar device (borrower phone) until replacements arrive.

People are getting mixed results with Sprint atm. It seems many are being told it's S7 or S7E only (to trade in for) and many are also being told that after 14 days it is permanent. They can't guarantee the Note 7 replacements will be available within those 14 days.

The Note 7 is being recalled for battery issues. This occurs in about 0.1% of devices. Your device may not even be affected.

I patiently waited for Samsung to make a formal announcement regarding Note 7 recall details and gave some expected slack to Verizon knowing they could not communicate how they will manage their recalls until Samsung communicates the facts first. But a day after Samsung publically announced their recall intentions Verizon is still uncommunicative on how they will manage their Note 7 recalls. Before yesterday (9/1/16) Verizon Note 7 customers should have already received an preliminary interim email stating that Verizon was on top of the issue and would send more communications regarding what to do as soon as possible (nope, that did not happen). Today, Verizon should have already posted on it's front page a link to information on how they are planning to manage these recalls, as well as sent direct communications. Instead, we have to do our own searching, digging, reading to find out all the facts on our own through other tech resources and news outlets. I expected better customer service from Verizon. You sold it to us and you should managing this customer service information directly with your customers in a much more proactive customer service oriented manner.

I agree that Verizon is handling this poorly at the onset. I had to search for any information regarding the recall through the entire site and finally resorted to Chat. I had two separate chat sessions(the first dropped and screen disappeared) with reps yesterday evening that claimed no one had reached out to them prior to my doing so and the only solution was to return it since I had only had the device 7 days and exchange for another phone in stock or go back to previously used phone and reverse my upgrade. I had to really push about waiting until new devices were available from Samsung to replace with the same device. I pointed out to each rep that Samsung was obviously standing behind the device and replacing not just in stock but already purchased stock so there was no downside for Verizon replacing the device with a NEW device once the corrected devices are available despite possibly being later than September 30.

They did offer the warranty replacement option outside of the September 30th deadline they have imposed but that usually comes with refurbished devices and not necessarily in the color of my choosing. I had to buy mine through Verizonwireless.com due to neither of my local stores having any devices in Coral Blue and I received email notifications of purchase, shipping and updates but Reps said they knew of no plans to notify owners of the 2-week old device with replacement options once they became available. Just the same old line, "you can check back with us in a day or two" option and putting the onus on us, as owners.

When I see the other major carriers respond proactively and consumer-centric, I was disappointed with the initial Verizon response, just linking to their Twitter feed that still has the sales announcement in their banner for the Note 7 debut. In the article on Engadget,(owned by Verizon now) Samsung explains how the US Galaxy Note 7 recall will work the other carriers at least seem to offer more options initially to satisfy customers if only to provide information and suggest a wait and see unless you are having problems currently.

I hope Verizon will step up to provide customer service for customers that remain with them, like myself, after two decades despite being able to get it for less elsewhere.

You, before the deadline, have the capability to return the phone now to Verizon and wait for a new one, send it back to Samsung, or wait past September. If you wait past September and you were to get a refurb, it would be the correct replacement option, as your phone at that point too, would be USED and not new when they gave you a chance to replace it.

And as far as the replacement date.....what if Samsung decides to deal with the carriers in ABC order?! The carriers have no way of controlling when they will get the devices in stock, no much more so when a new product is launched and retailers run out of stock. They do not know; and can't hold hard to a date. A lot of these "expectations" are highly unreasonable.

Once again an unreasonable response. How can a company rightly list what they are gonna do about a problem when the supplier is still trying to sort things out?! Just because other companies said what they are doing, doesn't mean that's what's gonna happen.

I personally think that people see that they need these new types of chargers, but then say "I'm not paying that, I'm going on Amazon". Then when something happens, it's an issue. Cheaper is not always better. What's the old saying? An ounce of cure is a pound of prevention or something like that.

Right 35 phones reported. Samsung announced the root cause is from a battery supplier with defective cells. Whether the people used OEM chargers or not is not as important as the information Samsung provided that the part itself is inherently defective.

~0.1% of 1MM phones is about 1K phones. Could be more, could be less. Chances are we may not have a defective phone. I, as well as many on the forum, aren't willing to take that chance of injury or fire to ourselves, children, or loved ones. Until I can verify my phone does not have a defective battery, yes, I will continue to be concerned as should all other Note 7 owners.

Samsung has been brought to the attention of this issue a few weeks back. There was plenty of time to work with suppliers and a solution to replacements. The announcement should have been made lock-step with suppliers so there would be a plan from this initial onslaught of concern after their initial announcement, which strategically was made after the stock market closed before the weekend. This announcement directs us to call Samsung or the retailer outlet and to move forward with the exchange or whatever option. Currently we are told one thing vs another and left in the dark, expected to dig out the information ourselves. It is THEIR responsibility, period.

If you're happy and not caring to replace your phone, great! Better chance for one of us who are waiting to get one sooner.

pherson, thanks for feedback but you seemed to miss the main point. I was expressing frustration for how disappointed I am as a faithful Verizon customer for Verizon's lack of communication/information on this equipment safety topic. Which to me is the sign of poor customer service. This simply isn't about a phone that isn't working, it's about potential 'exploding' batteries.

For years my family and I have provided lots of $$ and loyalty to Verizon as our sole wireless phone provider. I expect better customer service when I am concerned not only for my daughter's safety and also for her ability to keep the communication device of choice. In this thread we see where customers have had to reach out and make calls directly to Samsung or Verizon, or search the web for correct answers. There are lots of things Verizon should be communicating, and some of it is buried in these threads that customers themselves are communicating based on their own person research.

We shouldn't have to go to this chat area to figure these things out. Verizon should already being sending out communications or at least providing an easy linked path from Verizon's main web page and read up to date information about what is going on. Instead, that information is buried in these chat areas and provided by customers, NOT Verizon.

If a customer (i.e. my daughter and the Note 7 I purchased for her) is in possible physical danger from an exploding phone... I want the company I bought it from to show more concern and offer more helpful information, even if they can't give final details at this time. There is a lot they could be communicate that would be useful and helpful. We shouldn't have to be 'digging' it up for ourselves in sources everywhere else other than Verizon directly from whom we purchased the phone from.

I have had my Note 7 for two weeks... noticed it got warm when charging. I went into the settings, disabled the Rapid Charging... now when on the charger, no detectable increase in temperature whatsoever.

If you can not use a feature of your device because it overheats it means your device is defective. I expected to see Verizon providing precise instructions to avoid get injured and precise information of how they will implement the recall. Instead they have been playing with us, their clients. Verizon is taking us for granted. Big mistake.

Me and my wife have the N7, she's with AT&T and I just switched to Verizon a week ago. We went to AT&T first to return her N7 and they exchanged it with no issues whatsoever. They stated that when the good batch of N7's come in, she can turn her interim phone in and get the N7 again. They even offered to buy back her accessories. Happy wife, happy life. Now we walk into the Verizon store and it's a totally different atmosphere. AT&T reps greets you at the door and stay with you until you walk out satisfied. Verizon reps...I had to search for them. I informed the V rep that I would like to exchange my phone because of the recall. His first response was...all recalls all voluntarily and I won't be able to get the N7 back when Samsung release the good batch. I proceeded to explain to him that other carriers are honoring Samsung return policy, why isn't Verizon. All he can tell me was he talked to corporate and they're not going to. So whatever interim phone I decide to get to replace my N7, I'm basically stuck with it. I decided to take a chance and kept the N7 hoping nothing happens. Maybe Verizon will change their policy in a day or two. Is this the type of customer service I switched over to? I'm very tempted to go back to my previous carrier since I'm still within my rights to cancel without penalty.

My only expectation was that the company I have chosen for 23 years to be my wireless provider would at least take an active role in informing me, their customer, of acknowledging the issue that has garnered many headlines as existing and their willingness to be attentive to customers' concerns and make the exchange process as simple as possible for their customers. Not an unreasonable expectation at all. It's a growing competitive market for cellular providers and good customer service is how companies keep and even gain customers during a situation like this. I never expected ATT to go the extra mile and offer temporary interim devices until all exchanges could be made. I am disappointed and frustrated with Verizon's response, or lack thereof: not unreasonable.

I'm with you 100%. I'm hoping I don't have to go to a store, awful experiences there and it's always very time consuming.

Not sure if you saw my other posts, but I'm going to go through Samsung. Hopefully it'll be resolved quickly and at least they're offering a little more for this inconvenience. I'm going to call them on Monday and will keep the forum updated.

I've read the whole thread. What's funny is that AT&T sent my wife a text last night about the recall and instructions on returning the N7. I'm still waiting on Verizon to put something on their website about it. Please keep the forum updated.

I went into a Verizon store just to get information on the recall. I was told to call tech support after the holiday weekend. My wife and I are going to keep our N7 until we know we will get a new improved phone. We are use to the note.

This has been an interesting thread. After all is said and done, we should all have new phones. I'd love to know the percentage of people that remain with the N7 as opposed to those who opted for "inferior" non-explosive devices.

We all manage risk, every day. The odds of being struck by lightening (1 in 350K in Florida), of being a pedestrian struck by a car (1 in 4,292), or of dying in our sleep (1 in 6,472). Now we have a "new" risk: that of having our N7 spontaneously combusting (apparently 1 in 28,751 in our case). How do we manage? Largely with blissful ignorance in the face of necessity. We stay in Florida, walk the streets, and go to bed. And we use our N7's pretty much as usual, insulating the nightstand from the charger with whatever is handy (not really, but if it makes you feel better), until the day that our replacement N7 finally shows up.

There is NO acceptable risk if the phone's user happens to be my daughter. But it isn't a "new" risk, either. In 2004, this US News and World Report headline: "Exploding cell phones a growing problem." Bing "What are the odds of my cell phone catching fire?"

So, we aren't dealing with a new risk, but the manufacturer's response is VERY unusual -- not what you would expect from a major corporation. No foot dragging. Zero. And relatively open pockets in an effort to repair damages. Think back to Apple's Antennagate. Verizon? Well, just in providing an avenue of recourse they're doing about what I'd expect from a provider. If I can meander into one of their stores and walk out with a new replacement N7 at no charge 15 or 20 days from now, all with limited hassle, I'm happy. I'd be happier if they'd just deploy their recycle program, automatically send us our new phones and have us return our explosive ones.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. . .

It's not clear if/ when they will get non-defective ones and whether you can exchange for a non-defective one, but at least Note 7 owners are being notified of the defect. Good job!

Mine doesn't get hot while charging but it does get extremely hot while watching Netflix or videos or even while shooting videos. It got so hot yesterday I stuck it to my ex's leg and she jumped. She thought I stuck a lighter to her leg haha.

I find this interesting because my LG G4 used to get very warm while charging yet my Note 7 is cool. It doesn't matter if I use rapid charge or wireless the phone does not heat up at all. I suppose this could be a bad sign but I look at it as a very good situation. I'm concerned that if I trade for a new one, the new phone may actually be worse. I don't want to have to turn off rapid charge to keep the phone cool. And I want to continue to get more than a days use from a single charge. What to do?

That is certainly up to you. If you ignore the recall and then have a problem with the phone later on, you may be on your own.

I spoke to a Verizon rep on yesterday 9/13/16 to receive more clarification concerning note 7 exchanges/replacements. He said Verizon wasn't offering loaner phones and once you executed an exchange for another device till the new and improved note 7s arrived... You would be entering into another agreement and would be paying full retail value because you had already exchanged the device prior. So he recommended I do what was in my best interest, whether if be continue using the device despite the recommendation of CSPC, Samsung & Verizon to shut off devices or find and old phone to reactivate on my account. The rep was nice, but vague. I also, inquired about the $25 gift card or bill credit for a courtesy of being inconvenience or good faith stated on Samsung's official site and he said Verizon wasn't participating in that either. The rep stated Verizon was ONLY waiving the nonstocking fee you mentioned in your post until 9/30 and he did express they could possibly extend the date (but that wasn't written in stone). I spoke to this individual for a while about the latest updates and posts concerning note 7. He also, advised me that they had no knowledge or dates when the replacement 7s would be available. He gave me hypotheticals of possibly the end of the month or maybe next month. I left the conversation still perplexed on how long I will be waiting to replace my device and not having an option of a loaner/backup device like other rival providers are offering their customers til this debacle is rectified. Others have reported that they have been successful in getting a loaner phone from Verizon. You may try another store or CS rep and get a different response than what you have already gotten.

I'm not sure how using a phone which could possibly explode when using it could be in ANYONE's best interest, but that is just my opinion.

I have no idea how people are getting loaner phones from Verizon. I upgraded mine the first day it released. Was on vacation when I received a text message from Samsung about the recall. I checked it out online and as soon as I got back from vacation I went to my local Verizon to exchange it. I checked in at the front and they told me it was a 45 minute wait even though I explained it was for the recall. And than after the 45 minute wait was given my 2 options. I could choose to switch to a S7 and lose my upgrade or wait until the note 7 comes back in stock. And they were not giving out loaner phones. I asked when the note 7 would come out. The rep told me the following week but they don't know exact date and she would call me when it does. And even put a note on calendar call me. A week went by and I never received a call so I called the store today to check in. A different girl answered and told me they have no idea when they will get the note 7 back in stock and that my best bet is to watch Samsung's website for a public announcement.

So tonight I spoke to a Samsung rep via live chat who claims Verizon will have the note 7 in stock next week. So at this point I'll believe it when I see it.

I've received texts and emails from Samsung as reminders I still have to return it and shouldn't use it and so on. Yet i'm forced into a box waiting for them to come to Verizon. If its this serious a safety concern they should give loaner phones free of charge and take care of their customers until we can get new note 7s. I'm feeling like Verizon only cares about their bottom line. Whenever my car had a recall and I was notified I would bring it to a shop free of charge and it would be taken care of that day. I did not have to wait indefinitely for them to figure out how to get the parts in stock. The parts were already there waiting for my car.

No loaner phones. Downgrade and PAY for other phone while waiting for the New Note 7 then start payments on the Note 7 again. That is the deal that I was given, though it was put much nicer by them.

I got the same deal and I took it. This stop gap interim arrangement is what is being loosely called loaner arrangement. I get my replacement Note7 when available without the costs associated with early upgrade.

I was not expecting a free lunch.
