I began keeping track of my SIM card errors on my DNA. It has happened 14 times since May 16th.

Same problem. Called HTC they say it's NOT a known issue and to start with a new SIM card from Verizon, then a reset, then a card tray, then a repair. Those are the steps they plan to take.

No sim-card issues here also...! I feel sorry for people who have to deal with this "Known" problem on a daily basis. I'm almost certain owners of the DNA are feed up with the run-around tactics Verizon and HTC are implementing. NOBODY wants to take ownership of this problem and in doing so would cost Verizon and/or HTC millions..! So ------ what do they do in the meantime - they play the blame-game ---- pointing fingers and saying, "It's not me - it's you or in this case it's a software problem --- no it's a hardware problem"...! At this point --- WHO CARES --- I just want a resolution once and for all...! No --- I don't want a third sim-card to try (going on fourth---actually I've lost count), No --- I don't want to take-out the sim-card and clean it then reseat, and above all else No --- I don't want a refurbished phone when my "Brand-New" one is 2 months old..!

I'm having the sim card problems now as of the last 2-3 days... Please fix this soon. I use my DNA for my business but can't afford an unreliable phone. It happens while I'm on the phone with a client. Suddenly it says no service and is preparing the sim card... If I wait a bit I can call the client back but it usually happens again. I just got off the phone with one of my employees. I had to call him back 3 times to finish our conversation. I can't have these problems with the corporate record labels/clients I conduct business with. Please fix my phone!

I am with you on that IAMDNA! You certainly deserve a reliable device at all times. Have you taken the device into a local Verizon store to exchange out the sim card? If not, try to remove the sim card and place it back in. If it persists, take it into a local store to exchange it. Please let me know how it goes.

Same issue. Purchased DNA new in January. NO problem until last month. Totally unpredictable sim card errors, mid business calls while hosting several other calls, mid web presentations, the whole nine yards. Took it into local VWZ store on Monday July 28th and they made sure I had the most recent update (uh, yeah, automatic). Then they informed me it WAS a known issue, to just reboot whenever the sim error and dropped call occurred. They would NOT replace the sim card, claimed it was an HTC software issue that HTC was "on top of".. should be getting a software update with a "fix". Okay, whatEVER. I have been doing shutting down and rebooting all week and am at a loss what I am paying for if I have no service, and can't complete a call when I DO get service? Horrible, horrible for business calls, so I escalated it to corporate that the company they have their contract with isn't backing up their product with either a sim or a replacement phone.

Then, after probably losing a sale because of the disruptions on a presentation call, I got desperate and found this thread. After reading enough, I called VWZ tech support at number listed here and was advised -- SURPRISE! -- they've "never heard of the problem". Tech wanted to know where I was READING about all these people with this SIM CARD issue. Uh, community.verizonwireless.com? Happens a LOT, I was told, that they find out about the problems from the customers. ( A month later? For real?)

At any rate, a new sim card is "in the mail" (they suggested I go to the local store ... HA! NOT AGAIN!), should receive on Tuesday, then looks like on Wednesday I will be contacting HTC.

Great phone, very much enjoy Verizon's network, but do not enjoy paying champagne fees for straight talk beer. And never in my life have I had such challenges with any vendor, for anything. 12 year T-Mobile satisfied customer who hated to leave, but ya gotta have a network. Got the network, and a dysfunctional SIM!

I purchased my Driod DA on March 9'th and started having SIM card issues with in the same week. When I went to the local store, they have been very helpful and changed the SIM card. It worked well for a month and a half then the same issue popped up-mind you when I get this error message I don't get texts, calls and people who are trying to contact me say it just goes into voice mail as if the phone is turned off. Rebooting and resetting didn't help either.

Then visited the local store again and they did everything they could do and finally replaced the SIM card. A week later here we go, it's back again. The person at the Verizon store told me that this is a manufacturer's hardware errors.

Then their suggestion that I call the toll free number so that they send me a reconditioned phone-I disagreed-why on the earth I let my new phone go to get a used phone-which could again put me in the same position if I keep getting errors.

I'm saying it because I started with a Droid 2, one of the worst phones, it was replaced 3 times, then Verizon had enough they sent me a Droid 3 as a courtesy. The problems didn't stop, it was no better than Droid 2-replaced Droid 3, 3 times before I got this new HTC DNA and now it's making me extremely frustrated. I have been a customer for more than 11 years with VZW and had brilliant customer service though. Hope this time they could resolve this issue before someone files a class action law suit.

Replying here to bump the thread. Had my Droid DNA since approximately February of this year and now after several games of restarting, the sim card error is flat out staying in effect 10 hours and counting, reset or not, powered down or not. I've run the gamut of all the usual tech support grunt work and am too old after playing that game for years to do it anymore, so let me put this in money terms aka as corporate speak since money talks and nonsense walks.

Cell phones are not a game anymore: a lot of folks are going around without a functional phone because of this error,myself included. Legal nonsense aside, what do you think is going to cost more money? However much it takes to offer folks a different phone credit/refund/do whatever it takes to fix it now, or just jeep blowing them off and then the next thing you know it's in the news: someone died/some catastrophe happened and it could have easily been prevented, but the person that could have stopped it couldn't because of a sim card error and Verizon and HTC knew about it for months and kept blowing folks off with standard do nothing IT support line dancing/updates? I will be driving from CA to Texas to try and build a new life at the end of this month, so even though I keep my car in top notch condition, it could happen to me and my beloved cockatiel if I break down in the middle of nowhere on the trip. As I understand it, Verizon already has a sort of Bank of America like reputation at least in some circles. To whatever tech support folks that read this, show your manager and press the issue up the ladder; the corp would be foolish not to make you employee of the month at the very least. As for everyone else, feel free to copy and paste this all over the net; the squeaky wheel get's the grease when it saves the owner/operator money.

and about the lawsuit...I'm actually ready to get that going. I've been dealing with this since I got the phone in Jan. I'm SICK of it.

I understand the importance of having a reliable device libbedc! I'm sorry if you had difficulties in attempting to replace the SIM. There is no charge at corporate store locations for a new SIM. I recommend visiting a corporate store or alternate store for a replacement SIM. This has worked well in many cases. I started having this issue last week. It's happened a few times over the last couple of days. I'm bummed I see that others are having the problem, it gets worse and it's not isolated. I love the phone and it's only 5 months old.

I also had the same concern with my DNA. It seems to be a hardware issue with the SIM card tray. HTC will replace the tray for you if you call them 866-449-8358.

Hi,

Multiple times per day, I have to restart my phone due to this error. It wasn't much at first and I didn't look into it past restarting my phone but now it happen every couple hours and its becoming very inconvenient as my phone could be unable to receive calls for hours at a time until I check it myself.

When I got the phone back in January, I faced this issue about a week after activating but restarting the phone did not work. The in-store customer support changed out my SIM card which didn't seem to work so they factory reset my phone with the new card in it and the phone started working again. I haven't faced an issue as bad as that but the SIM card errors are becoming more frequent.

I "upgraded" to the DNA in January 2013 and have been getting this error since then. Today I've had the error 3 times already and it took multiple phone restarts to get the error to go away each time. I am currently on my 3rd SIM card, and it's pretty obvious that a new SIM card will not be the solution. I've called Verizon Wireless customer service multiple times and have never been told anything concrete relating to this issue. Unfortunately, a crack in my screen voids the warranty, but from what I've read in these forums a new device hasn't helped very much either. I was offered some pre-owned phones that would cost more than the early termination fee. At this point, I am very tempted to just pay the fee and move to a different carrier because I don't know what else to do. I understand that my voided warranty prevents Verizon from freely exchanging my phone, but what frustrates me is that nothing is being done about this issue. If Verizon sent me a phone that had a cracked screen and didn't have this issue I would be satisfied. I can't help but feel that there has to be something that we, as consumers, can do to make a bigger stink about this issue. I also understand that customer service reps are just doing their jobs so it seems somewhat pointless for me to go to a Verizon store or continue to call in and complain. It's upsetting that neither HTC nor Verizon is willing to own up to this, considering how much money their customers have invested in purchasing the device and phone plans. Is it that difficult to have a focus on customer satisfaction?

Today I spoke with someone at the executive office of verizon who told me that this complaint has been made before, which I was glad to hear. But he also said that this is not an issue on all DNA devices so the complaints are treated as isolated incidents. That was kind of frustrating to hear, but I can understand it. He mentioned that this information would just be sent to HTC, and I really doubt that will make a difference. In the end, it seems the only solution for now is to put up with this irritating error or purchase a different phone.

I know how all of you feel about this phone you love it but you hate this issue. I called HTC today about the issue and am getting a new sim card tray sent to me. I said there are lot of people who have this issue and are very upset. HTC rep told me that if you have replaced the sim card and still having the problem to call them and they will send you a new sim card tray. 1-866-449-8358 is the number I called and got a very nice person who took care of it right away for me and I did not even have to have the phone with me all I needed was the ESN/ IMEI. There is no need for a new phone I told them I have had another issue with the phone and he said to call them and they would be happy to look at it for me when its happening.

This is very helpful. Stop complaining. Just print this user guide and learn more about SIM card Tray. Make a note of your IMEI number of your HTC DNA (found in settings->About->Phone Identity. Keep it handy and call the 1-866-449-8358 HTC Support #. Once you call them (24 x 7) the CSR will ask you for the IMEI # and your phone # and address, email. You should get the new sim tray in a few days via UPS. Replace the sim tray and if you want go further, call Verizon and ask them to mail you a new SIM card. Replace the tray and SIM card and you should be fine. Hope this helps. Its a good device but HTC has this one buy which is annoying everyone. Hope they make a better device and add a more powerful battery - 3000mAh at least.

I had the same problems for awhile where the phone kept dropping service and calls due to the sim card.

I have the Droid DNA as well and i did go to a verizon store and asked them to look at it for me or give me another sim card. They did give me a new sim card and the one that i have been using wasnt the right one. What you have to do is go to a corporate Verizon store....not a Verizon Retailer... and ask for a new NFC sim card for the Droid DNA.

I was in VA over the Labor Day weekend and went into a corporate store..... and told them of my problem.. well i was issued a new sim card which was a NFC 4G sim card and HAVE NOT had any problems with my phone since..

I hope this post helps you all out....

BTW i have noticed alot more difference since i got the new card and phone seems to run better

Again I am having "preparing sim card" message. Mid 2013 I received multiple new sim cards and finally was issued another DNA. Now I am having the same message 20-100 times a day resulting in lost internet wi-fi connection. I am currently in South Korea working on a ship and only need my phone for wi-fi access. I sit around a table with other people using devices and mine constantly drops what I am doing while other people stay connected. When it drops connection the "preparing sim card" message pops up. I am disgusted this keeps happening especially since I only use my phone for phone calls 4-6 months of the year while in the United States and the other times I only need it for internet wi-fi while aboard the ship. What can I do? Nothing because I am in South Korea. Now the only connection to the outside world I have is through a borrowed desktop computer. I am paying over $1000 a year for this? This message is being sent via computer since my DNA is junk. What can Verizon do? Overnight me a good phone to South Korea. Seems realistic considering what I have spent, and the actual amount I use it on their network.

that they will replace the SIM tray which appears to be loose & is causing the error message. My coworker had the same issue until her SIM tray was replaced. For months now she has had no more error messages.

Ok, I don't normally post on forums, but my HTC DNA is driving me nuts. I absolutely love the phone, when its working. I bought my phone in January of 2013. Worked flawlessly until the summertime. I started getting the SIM card errors that everyone else on this board is getting. I would restart my phone 10 times a day. I finally took it into Verizon, and they gave me a new SIM card for it. From that point, it worked well for a month, and then i started getting the SIM card errors again. This drove me nuts. The whole purpose of a phone is to stay in contact with other people. How on earth can i do that when my phone is not receiving service? How do i know if i am missing an important phone call regarding my kids? So, i did some research on here. Came across these posts, realized Verizon or HTC doesn't want to own up to a faulty phone. I called HTC like Most of the posts say to do. They rushed me a new SIM tray with no questions asked. I installed the tray, and just like that, phone was working like a champ again. Well, at the beginning of this year, i started to get the error messages again. This was pretty disheartening, considering that i was already frustrated with that bogus 'update' that slowed my text messaging down to a snails crawl. But that's a whole other post! So here i am, back to restarting my phone 10-20 times a day. Wondering why i am paying over $200 a month for shoddy service. I wish it would have started acting up earlier, as my year warranty is up now. I don't expect some miracle from this, as it seems most replies from customer service revolve around getting a new SIM card and or tray, to which i have done both of those. Its got me so frustrated that i would rather pay my termination fee, and go to a different carrier that stands by their products. There is no way that we should resort to turning our phones on and off 20 times a day. What is this, an old Nintendo system? This is absolutely unacceptable.

I have been having the same problem off an on since April of 2013. I went to Verizon and they replaced the SIM card. Worked good for a while up until a few months ago. Now every time I turn my screen on to use it, theres the error. Sometimes restarting it doesn even work. So I went to verizon and they suggested to try and have them send me a new phone. Im about the activate it so we will see what happens. They dont have any other options other then waiting for my upgrade and then just have to deal with it until then.

When you receive the SIM card error do you restart the device or reseat the tray to get the service back? Does the new tray appear to be bent or misshaped?

After replacing the SIM tray, it worked well for a few months. I don't know exact dates. But it started giving me a SIM card error around the end of January. I can usually restart it and it clears itself. Sometimes I have to restart it multiple times to get it functioning again. I don't reseat the tray and it does not appear to be bent or misshaped. I have a protective silicone sleeve and do not drop my phone or anything like that. While it may seem like a minor error, I never know what communication I have missed until I check it only to find the error.

Just what we needed to know. At this point, it still does seem like this is a SIM tray issue. Given the warranty situation and nature of the problem, we do recommending contacting HTC directly at 866-449-8358.

I have an Android SCH 1415 and my SIM card errors just started this afternoon. I have never messed with the SIM card before today. I took it out and put it back in and it worked for a little while then msg comes back. Even taken battery out for 1/2 hr and it worked for a few minutes then back to the error msg.

To all having the sim card problem,

I had the same problems until nothing I did got my phone to work, including tape. I won't bore you with the details but I called Verizon. Verizon tech called HTC with me on a three way call. Got a new tray that was different than my original tray. It has a small protrusion on the leading edge of the tray. (The edge that goes in first) It's been a month and so far no problems. Obviously, HTC must know it's an issue or they wouldn't have redesigned the tray! Get a new tray and make sure it's not the same as the one you have.

randomhero DNA just started saying no SIM to me off and on about a week ago, I've had it since last February. Love the phone. Now it won't recognize the SIM at all. I talked on the phone for an hour plus only to get so far as "you can get a free replacement SIM at a local store." Went to the store, waited about a half hour until someone could help me, then spent twenty minutes while she activated the sim. No help at all.

I now have a phone that doesn't work as a phone. This issue is all over forums and has been for a while by the looks of it.

Mine gave me constant problems, often several times a day. I started carrying a paperclip between the phone and the case so I could take the SIM card out and put it in again. Got new SIM cards, went back 6-7 times, then finally gave up and got a new phone.

I had similar problems about 3 months ago. First I called Verizon. When the tech looked it up in her database, it said to get a new Sim card HOLDER or Tray. It was a recognized issue. The Verizon tech called HTC while I was on the phone with her. She created a 3 way call with me, the Verizon Tech and the HTC tech. The HTC tech, who was a mental midget, also looked it up in her database. It was there too. I needed a new Holder or Tray, not a new card. I didn't believe it at first. When I got the Holder, it was different from my original one. It had a tab protruding from the back. I changed trays, put in the old Sim card and placed it in the phone. I know I'll regret saying this but I haven't had a problem since I replaced the Tray. Give it a try.

Here's how I fixed our DNA's sim card problem. I read on another thread to put a piece of scotch tape on the top of the sim card (the side with verizon written on it) and trim off the extra then reinsert the sim card in the phone. Make sure phone is powered off first. I tried that, didn't work. So, I took it out again and put another piece of tape over the other one, and lo and behold, it actually worked. It forces the sim card to make a better connection inside the phone I think. Easy fix for a horrible problem that no one should be forced to deal with in the first place... no more HTC for me.
