REQUEST FOR ANDROID FEATURES THAT EnV HAD

I had the EnV before my DROID and loved it but ESPECIALLY miss the feature through my bluetooth that asked me in my earpiece who I would like to call and then verbally I would respond and it would connect me. This allowed me to be completely handsfree for my calls. I feel this feature should most definitely be included with the DROID!!! A second feature that the EnV had was that it would speak to me who was calling in - ex - "Call from Mark" would be spoken as Mark called into my phone.

Please include these features on the DROID as they are wonderful for safety and convenience.

Love the new upgrade that allows speech to text - would like to see text to speech - another feature my EnV had.

Other than that I could do without my EnV but I really miss these features and hope that posting this here will bring it to the attention of the powers that be to hopefully bring them to the DROID I now have.

Well I'm one peer who is happy to know and inform the OP that I too want hands free dialing so it is legal to use my Droid on the freeways of southern California.

BTW, jimfitzgerald, Verizon employees post here and so we can infer that they also read posts here and thus provide us a direct conduit to the Droid specialists at Verizon with our thoughts on their product and its strengths and shortfalls.

Also once it gets said here "in public" VZ is less likely to claim they are unaware of the complaints some of us have about a product that once held such promise only to become a toy for the fifteen and under set, shut ins, and suicidal scoff-laws.

Ideally, had you done the proper research on the Droid phone, android OS, before you purchased the device, you would have clearly known that no android device supports "totally" hands-free voice dialing. So you sir are the only one to blame for that. Also, you had/have 30 days to return your droid for something else that better suits your needs. I find it hard to believe that you didnt discover the inability to do hands-free voice dialing until after your 30 day return period.

Verizon has released us from their iron grip of control. I understand this is a strange new world for most of us. This device is not under the strict control of big red mothership. I am sure verzion does some quality testing but for the most part android is in the hands of google.. you should go to them:

Sorry I disagree and the OP and I are not asking a question so we don't need an "answer". I say "answer" because any reply one could reasonably expect to complaints is PR-speak along the the lines of "Thank you and we feel your pain however at this time..."

And finally in my case I post here in an effort to elicit others to join those of us who are disappointed in VZ's astonishing lack of respect for its customers such that they released the Droid, a software update and another software update without correcting a unfathonable omission in Droid's operating system; that is that you can not legally use a Droid while operating most motor vehicles in dozens of the United States.

To be fair, a number of well equiped new cars will allow hands free calling through the car's radio. But if VZ is proposing those afffected with this problem buy a new car they would be well served to recall the French public's reaction Marie Antoinette's suggestion that the poor who had no bread should instead eat cake.

I "researched" quite a bit and so the first thing I asked when I went to look at the Droid was if the hands free feature was being taken care of. I was assured by the store manager (a Verizon store, not a kiosk at a shopping center) that VZ knew they had erred releasing the Droid prematurely and would be downloading a fix "very soon". I got the same answer from the same person near the end of the 30 day trial period when I bought the media dock and to my shame I believed him.

You on the other hand are clearly superior to we malcontents and we only ask you to be patient as we stumble ill-informed through life.

You were obviously ill-informed by verizon reps just wanting to make a sale. Verizon does not decide when and if the droids will have hands-free voice dialing, that is up to google as they created the android OS. It is a fault of Google's not verizon's that the droids do not have hands-free dialing. If it bothers you that much why didnt you return the device? You seem like a smart guy who wouldnt fall for a simple store reps promises. Sorry you are having such an issue with the hands-free dialing.

Sorry, I gave my money to Verizon so unless they gave every penny of it to Google and were just acting as a go-between I expect VZ to take care of the situation.

Besides, how much could Google care about this issue? Of course the same might be said of Verizon. But they do depend on customer receipts while Google gets its money -from- Verizon and a great many other businesses and almost none from consumers.

You guys act like you are under the mistaken impression that the CEO of Verizon Wireless spends everyday poring over the messages in this forum to see what people are unhappy about. Any Verizon execs in a position to act on your complaints certainly aren't hanging out on this forum. IMO, it's more about the ranting than getting problems fixed. So send Lowell C. McAdam an email if you are so unhappy.

I could care less, I am perfectly happy with my motorola droid since the day I bought it in November. I just come on here to help others out that have questions about their droid.

Then you may want to restrict yourselves to answering questions as opposed to ranting to a person who did mention he wanted to make verizon aware fo what he would like. If you agree, add on to his comment. This peer to peer forum isn't for a person to post what they would liek to see and get knocked left and right for saying it. He feels this is a proper place to announce such a need. let him, read it or don't I am fairly sure he wouldn't be offended if you hadn't commented at all as your comments were neither helpfull or needed, but thanks for your opionions(probably spelled wrong). Your conduct on this issue was just as rude as it could be. A first time poster who may never post a question here based on the response you {please keep your posts courteous} responded with. I am just amazed. I'm not sure at this point you could answer a real question as he didn't even have one.

I suppose this is the part where someone like me would say that your post was neither here nor there to this subject, making it about as useful as a paper weight.

Regardless, Did the EnV have a CAPS LOCK CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL function too?

You have no reason to expect Verizon to handle this particular issue and here is why:

Handset manufacturers (HTC, Motorola, Samsung, et cetera) put the operating system (Android, Win7, Symbian) on hardware that they build. At some point, the manufacturers shop these phones to the carriers and they might come to some agreement on exclusivity, price, and in the past this is where verizon used to require the manufacturers to lock down wifi or in gimp in some other way the phones offered by the manufacture (HTC Touch Pro was the last good example of this). So the carrier and manufacturer come to an agreement and they sell you the phone. The carrier doesn't tell the manufacturer how to build their phones or how to write the code that goes in them (not anymore at least as far as I can tell and I am glad those days are over). Google has requirements of the manufacturers if they want to put the google branding on the phone but the OS is FREE http://source.android.com/ there is the source code you could compile yourself.

I am not dismissing your issue either. I would love to see the Android OS get better and what you suggest sounds good but this is clearly the wrong forum for that. I posted a link to the correct forum. I can only assume that you are trolling at this point.
