I recently purchased a Droid 4 and I have downloaded ringtones. The downloaded ringtones don't show up in the ringtone list in order for me to select one to add to a contact. How do I do this?
Usually, you must open the Apps draw and find either Files or My files. Tap on it to open it and scroll down past the folders. You should then come to individual files, some being your music. Go to each individual song you want to set as a ringtone and long hold it. A pop-up menu should then appear and Ringtone should be one of the options. Tap on it and it will become a ringtone.
Another thing that might work, using the Files or My files app, is to create a folder on the SD card (which is what the file manager app accesses) called Ringtones, and then copy the downloaded tones into that folder. On some phones, if not all, the system will search both internal memory and SD card folders called Ringtones and Notifications for sounds to use for those purposes.
@Dave-in-Decatur is correct, however, I would expand on it and say create a folder named media and IN THAT create ringtones, notification, and alarms and organize sounds accordingly. Putting them in the media folder (for me) makes them easier to find and, depending on what you are trying to set, will allow your phone to show the proper sounds.
I see all of the suggestions above but I am still in the dark as to how to get them on a list.
I found My files => File Manager => no individual files as Mortb said but went to Internal phone storage => to Messaging folder and found all of the ringtones I had sent to myself from PhoneZoo yesterday. they all have the little green Droid next to them. I went back to File manager page and tapped on SD card icon but apparently dont have one & not sure if I was suppsed to get one with phone or if I had to buy one (got new Motorola Droid4).
back to the messaging file. if I hold down the ringtone message a list of options comes up but none say ringtone. [open, share, zip, delete, rename, copy, move, info] none of the options show ringtone. any suggestions? HELP! and thanks
