Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs

So I am up for renewal and am wondering what people think about the Samsung Galaxy S4 that is going to be released in March. I've been contemplating whether or not to go with the iPhone 5 or the Galaxy S4.

The reviews of the S4 seem good so far? Anyone have any thought?

Really those two aren't even in the same ballpark. Iphone5 can't even compare to a GSIII

I guess I haven't messed with the Galaxy S3 so I'm not even too sure what the differences are between the Galaxy S3 vs Galaxy S4. I've just messed around with some friends iPhones and they seem pretty solid. Why do you say that the iPhone 5 can't even compare?

Well look at the specs. I mean first all 4 inch screen vs 4.8 not even close.

I haven't seen too many Galaxy S4 specs. I was actually trying to see if anyone knew them. A lot of the terminology goes over my head. I do get that it's a bigger screen but is that worth it?

Of course you can compare them. One is not necessarily better than the other. Having a 4.8" screen does not make a phone better than a phone with a 4" screen. You HAVE TO compare them. How else would you know which one you would prefer? There are pluses and minuses for each one.

I have a GSIII and a Razr Maxx HD that I keep switching on my line while my daughters each have iPhones. There are features on each of my phones(but not on both) which I prefer which is why I can't decide which to stick with. However, there ARE features on my daughter's iPhones which I wish were available on my 2 android phones. I personally wish I could take features from each of the 3 phones and put them all together.

I would recommend going into a store, though, and see which you would prefer. Just looking at the specs alone is not a good way to make the choice. The size difference is considerable. You may prefer the larger or smaller form factor.

Another MAJOR difference is the OS. There are distinct differences between android and iOS. It appears you have had some experience with iOS. Have you had any experience with android? After comparing the 2, you may find you prefer one over the other.

I5 vs GS3 are definitely in the same ballpark; it is really just a matter a personal preference. However it's hard to imagine the GS4 not being better.

What I see it as do you have the patience to put up with VZW slow...SLOW...SLOW...slow android updates or go with the iphone and apple will take care of that when they think you need it. I go for the SIII which I am very happy with and am very patient with updates from VZW. I will be getting an SIV when they are in the market. I won't have anything apple...just have no use for apple products.

I agree, there are some features that I like on the Android and also the screen size is so different. Excited to actually play with the Galaxy S4 when it's released!

Apple has lost many battles against Samsung. Samsung is the best by far. Look at some reviews on youtube. It proves it! Hope you stick with the S4. Im debating between the S4 or the Note 2 myself

I wish samsungs were built better, they feel all plastic and so cheaply made. I love the Motorola Razr M, aircraft-grade aluminum, built like a tank, but still slim since it has non-removable battery. If the samsungs were built better I would consider them, but they are getting too big now for my taste.

I haven't seen anything about the durability yet. The iPhone 5 really seemed to make a change compared to the 4S, so maybe we can expect the same from the Galaxy S4?

I guess it depends on if you plan on using your phone as a phone. Lots of people just text with them but I use my phone as a phone. Samsungs are notoriously bad on Verizon's network. The Galaxy Nexus was really unusable as a phone. The S3 is crap as well. The HTC and Motorolas work great as phones as their reception is great.

I'm not sure why Verizon and Samsung can't play nice together but it isn't exactly a secret. If you go to XDA developer, PDA, Android Police etc and just search samsung reception on the verizon forum and you'll find this is a well established issue which I doubt is resolved with the S4. I'm sure the S4 is a really nice PDA but probably will suck as a phone. At least Apple finally admitted the death grip with their phone, unfortunately Samsung seems to be ignoring their issues with Verizon's network.

The Galaxy S3 supports SVDO over 3G. The Galaxy Note 2 does not. Does anyone know whether the Galaxy S4 supports SVDO over 3G? Thanks.

I am in your boat!!! I can't decide either. My husband just got the IPhone 5 and it's really nice but I don't like the fact that you have to go through itunes to download music. I like having an app on my phone that I can download music without having to pay for it. On the other hand, you can go just about anywhere and get accessories or what not for the iphone and I just worry about the Samsung becoming obsolete like my current phone (the Thunderbolt). I heard that the Samsungs are more customizable....I don't know what to do though!!!!

As someone who has extensively used Android and iOS devices of all types on Verizon Wireless I can say that yes the iPhone 5 and GS3 and likely the GS4 are pretty much on par with each other. You have to remember people buy devices based on different criteria. iPhone gets immediate updates from Apple, (no delay due to the myriad of mfg's involved in the Android OS udpates) and iOS is very quick and performs well since Apple controls the OS and hardware experience.

That said Android offers its own level of benefits, including a wider range of design choices, features both in terms of software and hardware that Apple hasn't touted as "their idea" and hasn't called it "magical" or "revolutionary" in which the iOS fans get into a frothing crazed mindset. Android also offers a wider price point range, swappable batteries, external memory (although you can NO LONGER store apps on the micro SD so its becoming less of a value) and the carriers refuse to add sufficient internal storage options despite being given those options by Samsung 16/32/64GB GS4 and yet we only see 16/32GB if we are lucky.

Android may take longer to get the updates for unless you are a Nexus user (N+1-2 years) since Google doesn't always support every Nexus device for more than 2 generations. We have to wait for the processor vendor to certify the new Android update to their processor, the OEM (HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony) then have to update it to their phones, then the carrier has to certify it each process is at least 6-8 weeks depending on device life cycle. when it launched and when Google will allow OEM's access to the new Android Update.

Google should be releasing it to the OEM's right away, but they don't.

I have an iP5 right now, but the screen is the biggest drawback for me, I have finally decided that no matter how good it is, how fast the updates are and how easy it is to use I cannot stand a 4" screen and need no less than 5" and would actually prefer a 5.5-6" screen with 1080p and 32GB minimum of storage. I will be getting the GS4 without any doubt, too bad it will likely take Apple another 5 years to move past 4" displays and by then they will likely only go to 4.5 or some odd size combination.
