Samsung Stratosphere? Why didn't VZW give us the Galaxy S2?

If you look at the stats of the new Stratosphere, it looks like a Fascinate replacement with 4g. The features on the Galaxy S2 were so much impressive, wht didn't vzw offer us the Galaxy S2 instead? I guess they didn't want competition with the I phone 4S. Pretty lame, vzw

I dunno... I've been looking at the phone on phonescoop.com and the only thing that keeps coming to my mind is, "Well, it's about time." Lots of people have been wanting a 4G phone with a QWERTY keyboard. Now we have one, the only thing that would've made it perfect is if it were GSM capable. Regardless, this is a start.

It's just an Epic 4g with LTE instead of Sprint's crappy WiMax. Pretty sad that they're releasing a "new" phone from last year...

No, I haven't. Any idea on when it will be released? As sorry as the software support is with Samsung, I love the displays on their phones. I don't want a Charge, and I waited for the Bionic, but I'm not impressed. It may be fast, but it's lacking that beautiful display. I have a Fascinate, maybe I shouldn't upgrade because I am apparently one of the few who haven't had any major problems with it. I phone 4S is not an option, in my opinion.

The next Nexus is on my short list for potentially new phones for when my upgrade comes along. As long as it comes to Verizon of course. The current rumors are certainly pointing that way. :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks for the info, but I take issue with the way you delivered it. I would have rather you not answer at all, if you can't do so without a snarky attitude. There are plenty of members on this board who actually give helpful info without attitude. If you don't have anything good to say without attitude I'd rather you say nothing at all. Furthermore, I do not monitor this board 24/7 to be aware of all "the constant and silly handwringing" over no Galaxy S2 at Verizon

I will be looking closely at the Galaxy Nexus, too. I've come to be terribly disappointed with my Bionic. For as good as my X and X2 were, it's hard to imagine that the same company makes all 3 phones. It has mostly to do with constant data signal dropping and battery life, or lack of it. I'm on my 2nd one and it's not any better. Not to mention that the 2nd one has a rattling earpiece speaker. However, I'm not going to bother my Verizon store buddies anymore about it. I'll deal with it until the Galaxy Nexus comes out. As much as I (ahem) had heard about the Samsung phone, I should have returned the Bionic and held off. At least I have another upgrade I can burn through.

I am beginning to come to the same conclusion as Wildman. There is a "quirk" in the network itself in regards to the data drops. I can't explain it. I can say when I watched my phone dropping 3G signal to 1x or extended over several miles while next to a Casio Gz'One Commando that never dropped 3G, the questions started popping up in my head. This was a fairly rural area (voice & 3G only) and I been through there before with my Eris. In fact, I had mapped the signal with an application called Sensorly through there. I have even seen a better connection with my Tbolt on that road only a few months before. I haven't lost all hope. I believe that it can be fixed. In the meantime, hello wifi connection wherever I can find it.

The earpiece speaker would certainly bother me. Hopefully it is a software fix and not a hardware problem.

Do you still have your Droid X2?

The Nexus that may or may not be coming (nothing official yet) may be super-duper and all, but if you can't use a straight touchscreen it's still just an expensive paperweight. There was a thread regarding the pathetic lack of 4G phones with a QWERTY keyboard, and now Big Red has one. I think that is great. As I said before, it's a start. I hope VZW gets more in so I will be able to take advantage of the newer technology in 2 years. Current phone is the D3 and if it wasn't for the qwerty keyboard, I'd only use my phone half the time. I actually do have cold fingers and the touchscreen doesn't recognize when I tap the screen at times.

IMO, to compare the Strasophere to an Epic isn't quite right as LTE puts WiMax to shame.

Anyway, good job VZW, now, please get more sliders that are 4G LTE AND GSM capable.

maryl, the reason he gets annoyed is because since samsung made the announcement (about a month ago or so) there have been dozens of people complaining about it on the forum (there are already a bunch of threads on the topic).....and when we try to point out why verizon passed on it, we simply get more people complaining about it. it wasn't even going to be LTE capable when it was rumored to be coming to verizon. it would've just been a fascinate, with a faster processor. i think verizon made the right decision.

LTE definitely does put WiMax to shame, however the rest of the hardware is identical (not similar, IDENTICAL) to the Epic 4g. Kinda sad seeing them trying to sell a Galaxy S 1 (minus branding) after the SGS2 comes out...
