I just talked with HTC today and they confirmed that the new upgrade for the ERIS will be the 2.0..... Not the 2.1 as has been hoped for. It will be offered any day now and can be downloaded off the HTC site or over the air.
Hate to tell ya but they already have the eris running on 2.1 firmware via the leaked update. There are some bugs with it but all in all in runs rather well so..nice try.
I know about the "leaked 2.1", but I was assured by HTC that the upgrade from them will not be the 2.1 and that it should be any day.
That is exactly what I was told; the 2.0 will eventually be replaced with the 2.1, but at a later date. I was told that this would be any day now. They are ready to launch. If you don't get it over the air from Verizon, you will be able to download off their site (HTC).
She said that they were also looking to upgrade the Bluetooth so it will accept an oral command.

and you have forget a very import thing, by the time Android 2.1 is updated to HTC. Google may already release Android 3.0 or 4.0
