From things I'm reading around the 'net, and the fact they they have failed to answer this question on two other threads on this borad, I'm beginning to believe Verizon has no intention of updating the Continuum to 2.2.  As I understand it, they are replacing Fascinates like crazy due to the 2.2 update.  I know the ticker on the Continuum has proved problematic with the update.  The Continuum has not sold as they had hoped it would, as well.  So, all this leads me to believe that, though they have promised it, we are stuck for two years with phones that will never update beyond 2.1 (if 2.2 is out of the question, you can bet 2.3 will never happen).

I've read on some developer boards that techies are rooting their phones with zero problems.  Now it's just a matter of whether Verizon feels Continuum users are worth their time and trouble to release 2.2 to our phones.  I'd sure love to think my monthly fees make me worth their time so I can have the latest updates to my phone.  All I hear is the sound of crickets, though, not Verizon clammering to help me.

XDA Developers released 2.2 for the Continuum. so we know it is out there. It's just up to Verizon to take a few simple steps to get it officially released.

How much does XDA Developers pay you? You've mentioned that hacker site in ALL of your posts!

Those "hackers" are running 2.2 on their Continuums.  Maybe Verizon should hire a few of them.  They seem to be able to get an update out.

Those hackers are running unauthorized, stolen technology on their phones! Stop trying to make them out to be heroes. They're impatient kids that want to impress a bunch of strangers on the internet. Big wow.

But it's working, which is all the more proof that Verizon is holding out on us and/or has forgotten us.

Well if it's "working" (which it ain't, btw... just go and read about it yourself @ a cite OTHER THAN XDA you don't believe me) then go load it on your phone! If it's so great, then get it. Or are you as concerned as I am that the "working" software that your trying to redirect OTHERS to get isnt very reliable after all and you dont wnat to risk breaking your phone just to find that out? Right? But it's okay to have others do it, I guess... :smileyindifferent:

and whats with this conspiracy theory 'Verizon wont give us what we want or they just dont think about us!'?? Let me ask you somethin. When you go to a restaraunt to order food, do you sit and acuse the chef of being mean to you when the food doesnt get to your table within the time frame that YOU feel it should be delivered? Or maybe it might occur to you that the reason the food isnt there is because ITS NOT READY for you to eat it yet? Just because theres a version of something out there doesnt mean its RIGHT one or that it will work! For me I'd rather wait for it to be done so that if its screwed up I know exactly who to blame! If Verizon or whoever is processing this update needs this time to get this thing right, then let them do their jobs and stop trying to prove there was another gunman on the grassy knoll. Relax. Watch a ballgame. Go get a order of fries. Geez...

You know, if Verizon hadn't been promising this upgrade for over a year, no one would be upset about it. And the main problem people have is that now, actually, Verizon seems to be backtracking on whether an update will even happen. Listen to what's being said by them. They've gone from, positive statements about it coming to now saying that they can't comment on if or when an update will be released. Clearly, a little more communication on their part, i.e. problems they are having with the update, would go a long way. From your example, it's not like the patrons are impatient with the chef for not having their food ready on their schedule, it's the chef now saying that he's not sure he's even cooking the food. As for why I don't go upload it, I'm not at a skill level with Android to do it. Doing so would void my warranty. Why should I throw that away on something I've been promised, though that promise now has a shrinking value, would happen. I don't think there is some "conspiracy" going on, I simply think Verizon doesn't feel like the sales numbers for the Continuum are worth the effort. They are EOLing it, just as they have the Fascinate. Everyone knows once something is EOLd, support takes a dive.

I understand your frustration and apologize for any inconvenience. At this time we have no information is available regarding any scheduled 2.2 software updates on the Samsung Continuum. If or when an update becomes available it will be announced and pushed out to the devices. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Thanks, EdW, for proving my point. It's apparent nothing is going to happen. You know, the funny thing is that when I bought this Continuum (just 2 months ago) I knew it'd be with me for two years and I didn't want to get something that was going to be outdated in a few months. I thought this would be getting 2.2 soon, so I got it. Funny thing is, I passed on the Droid 2 because the Droid 3 was on it's way and I knew that D2 would be EOLd and wouldn't get much support. It's gotten more support than my Continuum. I made the wrong choice after all.

I wish they payed me. I'm just trying to get the word out that other people have released an update while verizon can't. I don't even like those elitist jerks, I'm just furious they were able to hack their way to an update before Verizon even does anything.

And you sound like a shill for Verizon anyways Pyre, what with your Droid Charge. You have nothing to complain about, don't even know why you are posting about something you don't even understand.

I am a Verizon fan and I dont apologize for that. I like the products the service and the pricing. I joined this community because I saw there were other fans here. But I don't "shill" for anyone. I don't "shill" for religion. Not for politics. Not for some corporation. Not even for my husband and I work for him now! There are a bunch of things Verizon does that I disagree with. I don't like tiered data. I don't like a lot of the phone selection. I dont like data requirements at all. Peopple should have a choice. I don't like their international plans. Too expensive, not enough coverage. I HATE that the worry free guaranty went from 30 days to 14 days. I think restock fees are stupid. I think activation fees are stupid. And that's just the crud that I don't like as a customer. If I knew you better I would tell you the things I didnt like when I worked for them!

Yeah thats right. Former employee. I was in sales so I knew all the phones all the plans, all the policies, aand how the company works. I knew the Verizon culture. So I'll post anywhere I please and talk to any topic I please cause thats my right and cause I know what I'm talking about. Can you make the same claim?

No? Didnt think so. Thanks for your time. We're done here.

This is ridiculous. I am the owner of an independently owned business, which has just created a new app for the Android 2.2. My phone is less than 1 yr. old and I'm unable to access this new app and download it because Verizon isn't doing their job and releasing updates that were created in May? All Samsung can say is I'm sorry for the inconvience please call the 800 number to file a complaint. I'm about to leave verizon, I used to be with AT&T and they didn't skip out on updates to customers. Anyone who is running a SUCCESSFUL business knows that CUSTOMERS come first. I'm very upset to see the lack of respect verizon has for its customers and the inability to produce technology that is well at their hands. But I'll say this no other business is going to keep my business from expanding. I plan to call verizon and samsung both, if they can't update their technology they shouldn't offer it in the first place!

The only recourse that Continuum owners have is to file complaints with the proper agencies.

The Better Business Bureau

The FCC

I got my Continuum in March or April of 2011.  Like most people I looked at several different phones at thet time.  I was told by the sales person that the phone would be upgraded to 2.2 very soon and it was already being tested.  I was told by the sales person that Verizon always kept there phones updated quickly and I was told by the sales person that the Continuum was a very popular phone and it would continue to be upgraded.

I new I would be stuck with the phone for almost two years.  While I am familiar with caveat of buyer beware, I also pretty certain that Verizon is represented in my case by sales person and they should be accountable to a least some degree.

If the Continuum is physically capable of running 2.2 and/or 2.3 (or even 4,0) there is, in my opinion, no exceptable excuse for not upgrading the phone.

When I discuss my carrier with anyone else and compare plans, etc. the first thing I mention is that I was lied to repeatedly and Verizon has abandoned me.

Hello fsuinn,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback as it is always appreciated. Although I am unable to speak on another rep's behalf, I would hope that you purchased the Continuum as it's functionality were impressive enough to meet your wireless needs. From a software update point of view, the developers govern what devices receives what update and when it is to be rolled out. As it stands today, there hasn't been any official communication on an update for the Continuum. Also, since the hardware specification for Android software updates aren't public, we are unable to confirm or deny if the Continuum is capable for running with the updates in question. Please understand that we don't want you to feel stuck with a phone, which is why I hope that the device was chosen based on your wireless needs and not speculation. If you are having any issues with your device and it's functionality then I am available to assist. We stand by all of our customers for any issues that they have and we also enforce the warranty that each manufacturers have included with each phone. Hopefully this posting with encourage you to reply with your concern so I can help.

Thank you...
