Waking up the phone - LG Ally

OK I understand that to wake up the phone I have to tap the "Power" button, but give me a few seconds to perform the next task please.

How can I extend the time after tapping power, that the phone goes back to sleep... Or is there a way to bypass the power button altogether??

If you go into your settings then into display there's an option alllll the way at the bottom to change your screen timeout so it doesn't lock so fast. As far as I know there's no way to completely bypass your phone locking.

That setting works when the phone is unlocked..... What Im looking for is extending the time from when I tap the "Power On" button to when I actually slide the "unlock". It goes back to sleep awfully fast....
