SIM cards can sometimes go bad. Have you tried reseating it? In other words, turn off the phone, remove the SIM card (be careful not to touch the gold contacts), wait a couple of minutes, then reinsert the SIM card and turn the phone back on. If that doesn't help, you might try a new SIM card ... they are free at your local Corporate VzW store or by contacting Customer Service.
