constant butt dialing with HTC ERIS

At first the butt dialing was amusing but at this point it is extremely annoying. Turns out that it doesn't take a thumb swipe to turn on the ERIS. Just a little pressure on the button and a little pressure on "menu" and someone somewhere is tuned in to whatever happens to be said. Forget about the fancy programmed thumb swipe when all it takes is a touch of "menu". Is there a remedy short of putting the ERIS in a case? I am highly dissatisfied.

Try putting the screen lock on the phone. From your homescreen tap the menu key, then tap settings. Choose location and security settings. About halfway down the page are options for the screen unlock pattern. Change the pattern and then make sure that require pattern is checked. After the phone "falls asleep" you have to enter the unlock pattern to do anything on the phone, including making calls.

the design screen lock is a great feature and i believe it still allows you just to swipe the screen to "take" incoming calls (you shouldn't have to draw the pattern on the screen to accept a call). it solves all the accidental issues (starting pandora or other music in the middle of a meeting, etc....lol)

There is an app called call confirm, install it and you will never have the problem again.

I'm actually astonished that this has been a problem for you. I've always carried my cell phones in my pants pocket and one of the things I love about the Eris is how virtually impossible it is to accidentally unlock it. In fact, when I'm shopping for cell phones, how securely it locks out aginst accidental dialing is one of my primary criteria. I can't tell you how many people I've shown just how difficult it is to accidentally unlock my Eris. This truly amazes me.
