content of texting

Is it true that content of a text message can only be viewed by someone other than the intended with a court order? I know that on the bill I can see the # the time and origin...etc...but to view the actual content....? and if so...how far back can it be researched?thank you for any help you can give.

No, it is not true that the content of a text message can only be viewed by someone other than the intended with a court order. Anyone can view the content of the text message simply by looking at the phone if that content is still on the phone. If there is also an app installed on the phone which copies the content to another location, the content can also be viewed there.

Verizon will only release copies of the content from their servers after the fact with a court order, though. However, the time Verizon keeps this content is not a long period of time, maybe a week to 10 days at most.

Yes, The National Security Agency collects all text voice, and tracks your data with there brand new facility in Nevada. They don't read everyone's communication they store it in there massive hubs in till they decide you are a person of intrust then a real person might review your conversations. Other then that if you are just a average Joe then they have a computer scan your stuff and there is certain Red Flag words that after so many times use a person reviews the case to advise weather further action is needed. There was a case where a young girl said the phrase " Its the BOMB" well the local police department got sent to investigate needless to say there was no real threat. The girl was on a cell to not a land line. watch c-span there on there all the time, i forget what his name is but a few people from NSA should be getting in-trouble for lie's to congress because they denied collecting info on millions of people when they indeed doing so. They claim It was through a secret court order so that makes it OK. Its disgusting what has happened in America. The Guardian did a huge article about this. British Gurdian, not American Gurdian our news agents get there stories from our goverment.

Interesting that VZW would collect and store text msgs. Why, is there a govt regulation requiring it? If not then why would VZW do it?

That's the point, Verizon DOES NOT store them. They accrue on their servers. As new texts are sent thru the system, the older ones are discarded. If there was no method to buffer these messages, the ones which could not be immediately delivered would just disappear.

Verizon has a buffer of text messages because not all text messages can be delivered immediately, for whatever reason. The phone is off, not in range of a signal, out of the country, etc. If a text message is not delivered within a week or so because of this reason, then it is ALSO discarded along with the older messages.
