Depending on the phone you have ... connect the phone and computer via the phone's USB cable, change the USB connection type to File Transfer, and then 'drag and drop' the files.
An alternative (or a secondary backup) is to upload the photos to a cloud service like Google Photos (which can be set to automatically back up, but be sure to choose over wi-fi only so that you don't blow through your data) and then download the photos from that cloud account.
