In the description page for Messages+, it says you can use Smart Emoji. How do I do that on Message+?
With the app open, tap the three bars in the upper left-hand corner. Scroll down to Settings. Scroll down to Enable Smart Emojis and uncheck it.
Update the app in the Play Store and once the update installs, Smart Emoji should be automatically enabled (you can turn it off via Settings).

Okay I finally found it after a two day search but now that I disabled it I
can still see the emojis in my threads. Does this have anything to do with
the fact that I don't sync my messages until I'm connected to wifi?
My Note 8 has no Smart Emoji setting and Play Store says the most current version of Message+ is installed.
I want to turn off the torturous Smart Emoji. Suggestions?
The emoji settings in my Note 8 are in Customization. The only choices are Emoji One and Classic, no Off choice, no Smart Emoji.
The complete answer is: Click on three bar menu in upper left/settings (all the way at the bottom)/Conversations/deselect Enable Smart Emojis
Actually... when you are on the message+ screen, after you click on the 3 lines in the upper left corner, and click on settings... *you need to click on CONVERSATIONS...this is where, you'll see the option to enable/disable "Smart Emojis".
