pictures missing

i took ~60 pictures with my phone yesterday and while i can access them by tapping the app and the "photos" button on the bottom of the screen, the photos are not showing up in my "camera" gallery, or reading as stored in my device - which means Instagram cannot find these photos. We're talking a whole days worth of work and a week's worth of content. help me, please.
