I keep getting "Cloud contacts backup failed". Why? I have tried wi-fi and data and still get the same message.
You are much better off this way. Change your contacts to Google and let Google back them up. You will have accurate backups and immediate reloading and updates. Backup Assistant is not a very good application and some refer to it as Malware as it is so intrusive.
Hi CindyL313 - Let's get your contacts floating in the Cloud! May I ask what model is your device? Are other item backing up in the Cloud like pictures and documents?Thank you,YaleK_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWsupport
I have a samsung5.photos and videos backed up fine but contacts fail.
I have a Droid Maxx just purchased in May 2014.
This is very odd Marla1104! Try clearing Cache/Date and synch again. Settings>Applications>Application Manager>All>Verizon Cloud>Clear Cache/Data.AntonioC_VZW Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/VZWSupport
@CindyLu313,Thanks for the additional info! Is anything else backing up on the Verizon Cloud? Try clearing Cache and data for the app.Go to Settings>Applications>Application Manager> Verizon Cloud.Keep us posted.JohnB_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I did that. Everything backs up except contacts.

As previously mentioned, use Google Contacts. If you want to keep dealing with Verizon backup, that's your choice, but Google Contacts is hassle free.
The same thing happened to me after a forced update on my Samsung s5. When I called Verizon they told me to back up to Google cloud! What kind of advice is that?
I just received a new LG G2 phone and restored my old "dumb phone" contacts from the Backup Assistant, and then set up the Verizon cloud backup (which seems to be the default). It seemed to work for a few days, then I started to get, regularly, "Cloud contacts backup failed due to network lost!". My network is fine and it's working everywhere else in the house (strong WiFi signal, decent 4G reception). I tried rebooting the phone as well as clearing the data for the Cloud app and the error still occurs. After reading this thread, I think I'm moving my phone contacts over to Google. No sense in contacting Verizon technical support to be told my phone needs to be replaced when this is clearly a problem with the cloud software.
Do yourself a huge favor. Change your contacts to Google Contacts, clear our Backup Assistant and cloud. Disable cloud, disable Backup assistant and use the seamlessly easy Google to back up your contacts and never have issues like this again.
Can you walk me through how to change everything to Google?
Hey there.. if you have an Android, you can download an app from the Google Play called Contacts Optimizer. This app easily moves your contacts from "Phone" to Google and will help you clean up your contacts at the same time. Plus, it's ad free and had a slick interface. Hope this helps!
I started having this same issue to and moved my contacts to Google. If you decide to as well, be sure to use an app called Contacts Optimizer. It automates this process and you're all done in just two clicks.
I have the same exact issue. Contacts won't back up. Keeps saying network failure.
mdbratch,Oh my! We want you to be able to successfully sync your contacts. Do you receive the same error message we trying to sync over the data network and over wifi? Are you able to sync other information on your device successfully, such as pictures and videos? LindseyT_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Doesnt matter the network. Pictures sync fine. The only problem is contacts.
I am having the same issue. Everything syncs fine except the contacts. This message began showing up after the last update.
Same thing happened to me after the latest update and here's how I fixed it. I went to My Verizon>My Device>Backup My Contacts. It showed my contacts were backed up, but I went through the backup process and this issue went away. If you've already gone through the process, you may just be able to have it sync your contacts.
Hope this helps.
Hi Dave, I tried that method myself, but it didn't solve the issue for me :smileysad:. What device do you have?
If you shut down all apps with task manager and clear the cache on the cloud app it seems to fix the problem. But you have to do it every time you make changes to your contacts.
GeekyGirl. I have a Samsung S5.
jdhashem Hey there... I tried that as well but it didn't solve the issue for me :smileysad: But, I've transferred all my contacts to Google anyway so I no longer need to use Verizon Cloud backup. Thanks for the suggestion though!
DaveinMT Thanks Dave. I'm experiencing this issue particularly on my HTC One M8. I have a Samsung S5 too and don't have any backup issues at all!
i'm having the same issue. i sometimes can't even connect to the cloud from my phone. "Something went wrong. Please wait a moment and try again. If the problem persists, try logging in." it won't even log in. hasn't backed up in a month. i tried doing a sync from my computer to my phone on verizon's website, but it didn't work either. FRUSTRATING!!!!
Switch to Google, it is easy and you will never have any worries over it
i went to the verizon store last night and they did a factory reset. now they work. Go figure :smileyhappy:
It works now up until their next update. Are you going to do a FDR each time they change something?
Google in some areas is not high on my happy-meter but the backup service is great like Jakeman1 said. I would not want to do FDR at every change. I use both Google and Verizon for different phones and they work, but it's your call.
If you change your contact sync to Google, does everything get backed up...ie. pictures, music, texts, etc? Thanks for your help
Short answer, yes. I back up my apps data, contacts, passwords, pictures, and settings all of the normal items. I do not save text as a rule.
I am having this issue to it says can not connect when i have tried both 4g and wifi
Droid Razr Maxx HD -- old phone, don't judge me.
Anyways...running version 14.something of verizon cloud. As soon as I hit back up now, it immediately said backup failed. Uninstalled updates for verizon cloud and went back to version 13.6.4.20...everything backing up correctly. turned off automatic updates, good to go.
My s5 has the same problem, how do I switch to Google?
There are many ways to switch. The easiest is to download Contact Optimizer and it will change them all over for you in seconds.
I am having the same issue with a Samsung Galaxy S4. I was able to clear the cache but it didnt solve my issue.
A 50 other items backed up
