Do I have to activate a new phone before transferring contacts to it?  I am using a previous phone as my new one while my old one is repaired.

BEQKAH53, I am sorry to learn that something happened to your current phone. I hope that the repair goes well. We are here to provide support and I know how important it is to have access to your contacts. You will have to activate your old phone in order to connect to the Verizon Cloud. Here is a link that will help you activate your phone: http://vz.to/2gXTqrZ

No. You can setup the the phone on wifi without the SIM installed so the phone won't be activated until you install the SIM card.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
