Not a Verizon customer, safe to give out my IMEI?

I'm selling a phone I used when I was on Verizon and the buyer is asking for my IMEI. I've read all sorts of things about how people can "clone" your phone using the IMEI or call up verizon and report the phone stolen. That shouldn't be a problem for me since I don't have an active account with this IMEI right?

You have every right to be concerned about someone asking this information. I can assure you however that when selling your device, it is perfectly ok for someone to ask for this information. We encourage them to so that they can make sure the phone they are purchasing is a phone that's not currently activated or reported lost/stolen. It's really in place for the security of everyone involved. I certainly hope this helps.
