Possible Phone Scam

I received a phone call this morning from (800) 600-6358 the digital voice message indicating to be from Verizon wireless stating that I had $321.00 being credited/ rebated back to me, all I had to do is log into (what sounded like) verizonwireless.com to claim my credit. Although this message sounded very authentic I believe this to be a compete falsehood and a very possible phone scam, has anyone else received such a call from this number.

On a side note: I also ask Verizon to look into this and confirm it's validity or not and to please inform all Verizon customer of their results.

This is a scam. There are many Robocalls going around like this with different amounts that you get back. DO NOT log into the website.

I also received this at 8:30pm last night. Verizon needs to be more aggressive at prosecuting these guys. They are stealing minutes from everyone in the form of talk time and need to be held accountable. I don't have an unlimited talk or text plan and these SPAM calls come out of my pocket!

Only if you answer - I typically don't answer calls if I don't recognize the number. if it's legitimate or important they will leave me a voicemail, which I can retrieve after 9 pm or on a weekend when minutes are "free".

In some cases, it does appear to be Verizon's Customer Service number ... even if you do answer it is likely a one or two minute call - and once you know it is SPAM, you can block it or ignore it.

Glad you raised this. A friend of mine got a similar call from 800-888-9599 and the caller claimed she got a credit of $495.00 back to her account. All she needed to do was log in to her Verizon Wireless account at www.vzw495.com and type in her username and password. But she knew better and warned all of us about the call.

By the way, I looked up the phone number and http://www.callercenter.com/800-888-9599.html came up along with several complaints from others who received calls, too. Looks like this scammer has been calling people for a while now.

Suzy has a Good point: for me I only answer to calls that is listed in my phone book unless I've called a person not listed and there calling back Like a business) After a certain time at Night unless it's family calls go unanswered..

I use an app called Call Blocker which automatically blocks Blacklisted numbers or those that I put in the list myself.

Great suggestion Suzy, however Verizon needs to do better. That's my point. Unless your subscribe to a $5 a month addon to your bill the numbers you block will expire in a few months, with no online history of those numbers. It would be TRIVIAL to create a report on the Verizon backend that can identify the top offenders by grouping blocked numbers by us, the users. There is no compelling business reason for them to do this.

The same number 800-600-6358 called me and I got a prerecorded message.However, I was told that my account had a past due amount of $322.00 to be paid. I knew this was a scam since I have a monthly account. I am thinking that they are taking advantage of those people that are not able to figure out it is a scam.

This is just simply a scam to get your credentials to your account. You should not log onto that website or input any information. I had to deal with this the other day, once they have your information they are able to access your account and make purchases on equipment, adding lines to your account, and process plan changes which in return will take your monthly bill to well over $1,000.00 in most cases and your life will become very stressful after that. My Recommendation is to contact Customer Care at 800-922-0204.

yes, I've had two calls in the last 5 days from diff 800 numbers - both #s are blocked but I'm sure they have many others to use

I got an automated call today telling me that I have a credit to my account. I knew it was a scam. The problem I have is the call showed on my caller ID as Verizon (I have it programmed in my phone). So, how is that possible?? I called Verizon and they said they are trying to figure that part out! That isn't very reassuring! How are they getting our phone numbers??

I received a call this afternoon purporting to be a Verizon representative from 800-922-0204 (which is a real Verizon number). The "representative" informed me there would be an 8-12 hour outage and they were going to credit next month's account. He gave me a "verification number". Very authoritative sounding.

I said he

needed to identify himself further. He told me to hang up and call that number and I would see it was Verizon. I kept him on the line just to see what his scam was. Then he asked me to verify some info.

I said if he had my number and was from Verizon he would have that info. He asked for my name. I said, "No, why don't you tell me what name you have on 'my account' and why you are really calling."

I told him I was informing local law enforcement and Verizon. Apparently a phone app allows these callers to "spoof" any number and assume the identity of that line. Verizon told me that when they call OUT, it never comes from that 800 number, but rather, from an area coded number. I also called Verizon to alert them to this fraud as the person had my phone number and location.

I got a call today saying to go to 54Verizon.com to get my credit of $54.00. Since it was from Verizon, I did as they said. It was only after that I realized it must have been a scam. I immediately changed my password. Verizon needs to make it easier to report such scams on their website. Since 54Verizon.com is an actual Verizon looking website, why don't you do something about it legally?

It might have looked similar to a VZW website, but a real VZW website will never ask for your billing pin/password or have the account login password on the same screen as the user ID. I hope you changed your billing password along with the account login password.

I got this call yesterday from an actual verizon tech number that has called me before while working on my phone, that is why i answered. but luckily when i went to the website it apperently has been taken down or at least neither my phone nor computer would get on it. I am hesitant to block it being as it is actually a verizon number.

I received this same phone call today at 6:28 in the morning and received a pre-recorded voicemail, then I received it again at 9:32 in the morning and picked up and received the same recording. The recording stated that I had qualified for a $54 credit towards my next bill, and to claim the credit I need to visit verizon54.com. The phone call came from 800-922-0204, which I discovered is the actual Verizon Wireless customer service phone number. I visited the website and it looked exactly like the Verizon Wireless website. I entered my phone number and password, and that's when the website started looking a little cheap and illegitimate. They asked for my phone number, Verizon pin, and the last 4 of my social. I changed my Verizon password and attempted to call Verizon Wireless to speak to a customer service agent, but the wait times were longer than I could stand to wait so I e-mailed this post over to them.

I received a call at 6:39, Feb, 22, 2014. and so did my wife at the exact same time. It was a recorded voice and I logged into the real regular site, and chatted with a rep. Didn't know of any type of credit. This was an offer of $54 dollars. The thing was it was from the 1-800-922-0204. Verizon help line number. Do not reply to this call. It is a scam. Verizon needs to have people or help to keep this kind of thing from happening. I am not happy with Verizon as it is. Just another reason to leave. ugh! How to these scammers get our numbers?

I just got a call like this myself, for www.verizon27.com

I noticed that the web page had some slight differences. The menus at the bottom didn't have all the same links and the social media icons were in 2 places instead of one and out of order, etc.

Then, I searched for a Scam on this topic and found this thread.

I got on a live chat and told Verizon that it was still going on via Chat and after all that, the guy said to call the customer service # and tell them. I said "you can't forward this chat onto the fraud department?". He said no, I'd have to call.

I was just being a nice guy by letting them know at all, now I'm expected to lose more business time on hold on the phone to tell them again just to be a nice guy? The world is so strange.

Same thing happened to be about 30 min ago. Except this call told me to go to www.verizon36.com

When I went to it, I noticed the same things you mentioned. Also at the very top of the page, there is a line space and then the content of the page starts.

I goggled the page but couldn't find anything, but now that I've seen all these different post about the multiple different sites being told to go to, now I know why i couldn't find anything.

I also tried using live chat first and was told the exact same thing. The rep said that he would advise not going to the website and to call the customer service number at 1-800-922-9204. I told him that was the number I received the call from (forgot to mention I have a pre paid that is currently off and me still receiving the call is what made me think is was real at first) and was just questioning it and he just said, "I'd advise not going to the site and to call customer service".

Yes, very weird how they handle fraud issues involving customer accounts.
