When I try to open contacts, I get a message "unfortunately , contacts has stopped"
How do I fix this?
Probably the first thing I would try to remedy that would be to go into your application manager. It'll be in settings, and called either application manager, apps, or applications. It'll pull up a list of your downloaded apps first, but you'll need to swipe left a few times until the heading up at the top says "all." Scroll down the list and find your contacts app, tap on it, then hit force stop, and also clear data. See if that stops the problem, it should.
You may also want to make sure you have the verizon support and protection app as well. It'll help sniff out issues and fix them when it does its scans, and has some other great features as well.

same problem here, whenever I open people or dialer. Last week it would pop us once or twice when I opened the phone. Now it's 5 or 6 times. What if I needed to call 911??
Droid Ultra, system up to date.
Is it the phone or the network??
Thanks,
Laurie
Joyna,I am so sorry to hear you are having issues with accessing your contacts. What make/model device do you have? Have you attempted the wonderful troubleshooting steps provided by nicholasbranson? What happened when you force stop and cleared data?LindseyT_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I have been having the same problem on a Droid Razr Maxx HD. 5 or 6 times a day, when I try to use the dialer or contacts I will get "Unfortunately Contacts has stopped". If I try it 3 or 4 times, eventually it works. I have tried clearing the cache. I have tried running in Safe Mode. I have tried doing a factory reset and running - no effect (so I reinstalled my other apps, not too many of them, and none related to contacts).
This all has been happening since the September update to 4.4.2
I am running:
System version 182.46.15.XT926.Verizon.en.US
Model numnber: DROID RAZR MAXX HD
Android version 4.4.2
Baseband version: VANQUISH_BP_100731.020.64.21P
Kernel version 3.4.42-gbd361ac dbbuild@ca88lnxdroid25 #1 Tuesday Jul 29 03:03:04 PDT 2014
Build number KDA20.62-15
Build date TUe Jul 29 02:51:09 PDT 2014
Any solutions? - I've seen this reported elsewhere on this site for various phones (e.g., Droid M, and I posted there (message thread 1175493). Before I thought it might be specific to my nearly 2-year-old hardware, but seeing that someone on a droid ultra makes me think that perhaps the issue is with the update....

same issue - Droid Razr Maxx HD - following thread....
Thanks for reaching out for help, Aargh-DroidRazrMaxxHD. This may be caused by some temporary files clogging the phone's ability to open the application properly. Please follow the steps at http://vz.to/1272lyR to clear the cache partition on your Maxx HD. It's not a master reset, so don't worry. Your personal files and settings won't be effected. Thanks for the response, unfortunately, I can only get through part of the suggested fix…I never get step 4, the “droid triage screen”. Any other suggestions?
