Why are the data speeds so slow with a full signal and an LTE connection on an iPhone7. Less that 1mbps download.
Please note that this is a screen capture. The signal strength was full at the time.
Let's get your speeds fixed, ssauls0613. When did this first start? Is this happening in one area or multiple locations? Have you tried restarting your device? We can also take a look at your area and see if there are any outages. Can we please have your ZIP Code?

You are not the only one with this issue. Myself and several others have the same issue because our data is deprioritized behind other Verizon customers when the towers are congested. I know this is true because whenever I cross the bridge into the next state over (which is only a couple minutes away), I am switched to a different tower and my speeds are a lot faster there.
Rest of my family has an actual Verizon plan and have no issues at all with speed. I, myself, will be switching to an actual plan today because I can't stand having slow data.
Same here. I am a network engineer so I went through many troubleshooting steps over course of two weeks. Change Sims. Modified settings. Modified APN. Factory wiped phone. Purchased another prepaid phone. Swapped Sims back and forth. All test resulted in slow internet speeds. Have 2 bars only receiving .03 Meg's a second. Sometimes it would not even run the tests and get network communication errors. I attempted test on both phones in multiple counties and states. Varying times a day and under different weather conditions. I sent an a trouble ticket that was escalated up to 3rd teir support. No resolutio.
All the time I was doing the testing I was also using a contract phone to compare the results. All speed test on the contract phone scored significantly higher. The only conclusion that in store tech support and myself could come too is that it was prepaid service that is negatively affected. I even had the in store rep put my SIM card into his phone and he experienced similar results on prepaid.
Today I purchased a prepaid AT&T phone can get significantly higher results on one bar a service. I'm receiving speeds of 7 Megs a second on one bar of 4G, not LTE. Two or three bars on Verizon prepaid 4g lte yield results of .03 to .75 Megs a second. I have screenshots and videos of all testing done so there is not much they could have done to dispute.
Needless to say I'm dumping Verizon. There's is no reason I should be forced into a contract in the more expensive plan to use the data that I paid for. Especially considering the prepaid customers pay for the service up front
Mjbphone, we would never want to lose you as our customer. It's our goal to make sure we do everything we possibly can to get you the best possible service. Same issue here. I live in the Denver area and ever since switching from TMobile to Verizon my data is slow. The rollover data is a joke, because I will NEVER come close to reaching the cap with less than dialup speeds / sites never loading due to the slowness. I wanted Verizon due to Voice coverage with at least semi-decent speeds. My wife was wanting to come to Verizon but now she is going to stay with TMobile.
What I am upset most about, I have 6GBs of data without the rollover (over the 12GB mark with rollover), and I cannot even get past 300MB in a month due to the speeds! If it wasn't for my xfinity wifi hotspots, I would be So Out of Luck. I mean at least I can pull over in a neighborhood and get data to look up an address or map, or if my wife is with me, T-Mobile will work blazing fast.
In large print they need to state "during peak times, which is all the time, your service is less than 56K speeds". I was expecting lunch, and rush hour times / near bed time to be the busiest and degraded to no less than 5Mbps, but this is all the time. It is a shame and feels like false advertising to me when I can never dream of hitting the cap.
Having quick speeds is a must Jw110. We are here and ready to get this figured out. What is your exact zip code? Do you know of any other Verizon users experiencing this problem in your area? Are you also on Prepaid or Postpaid?

I finally canceled and went to AT&T prepaid. AT&T has less coverage here
but Service is 1000% better. No problems with data or dropped calls
everywhere I go.
I have unlimited data and speed does not get reduced untill I reach 22
gigs. Only cost $10 more a month.
I would suggest giving Verizon the boot. I bought a go phone to test prior
to switching. Only took me 24 hours to decide.
80465 prepaid.
I do not know of any other pre-paid Verizon customers only post-paid, who do not experience the problems.
@mjbphone thanks for that I will take a look into AT&T after I talk with pre-paid Verizon to see if they want to keep me as a customer or not.
Yes. Nothing found with post paid. Pre-paid (non 3rd party vendors)
Only.
jw110, You're very important to us and we'd never want to see you go. How can we turn this around. Reaching out to prepaid customer service will be a great way to get your issues addressed. However, we're still here for you. We're not seeing reported issues in that area. Is this happening indoors, outdoors, or both?

Same here. As a Verizon prepaid user in a campus town in Georgia, I raised this issue on this community a couple of months ago, and nothing has been addressed.
I also have two different LTE speed test apps, and the data download speeds are less than 1 Mbps on average. I had been a long time AT&T prepaid user, and two reason why I switched to Verizon prepaid are that Verizon prepaid provides HD voice, and that Verizon has wider coverage in the nation, whereas AT&T HD voice service is only available for post paid users. In terms of data usage at least, Verizon prepaid is far worse than AT&T prepaid.
I went to the corporate store to change the sim card. I also talked with the technitian at customer service, but all they can help was guiding me to reset a phone, and that did not help that much.
On AT&T prepaid website, they clearly say that prepaid provides "LTE" wheareas on Verizon prepaid website, they only say "Highspeed", not LTE, no, never. I don't think Verizon prepaid is deprioritizing prepaid customer "when users are heavy." I think Verizon prepaid is deprioritizing prepaid customer "all the time" because they literally does not provide LTE speed to prepaid.
My wife is still using AT&T prepaid, enjoying much much faster, and larger data. I still like Verizon's HD voice, so our couple may keep this combination for a while.
I have the same problem here in Humboldt, TN. This is a town of maybe 8000-9000 people. There is no way the network is congested at 1430...pr paid customers pay for the data up front and should have the priority. You just hope that the postpaid customers that are getting the premium data actually pay there bills...come on Verizon what gives?
I also have the exact same problem. I receive less than 1MB down and 0MB up. This is during the mornings, afternoons and evenings. Pretty much everytime you really need to use your phone. I understand that prepaid will be prioritized. but for it to be less than 1MB is ridiculous. I feel like its a bait and switch in order to force prepaid to post paid. At this point, I'm thinking of switching to ATT Prepaid. These issues started in July when switching to the "new VZW prepaid" plans. At minimum the VZW Prepaid plans should be throttled to 10MB during busy times, not less than 1MB.
I switched to att prepaid and love it. 40 dollars
A month with 6gb of day. It’s 45 dollars but you
You get 5 off for auto pay.

please pass these posting about the data throttling on to upper management. verizon's reputation is on the line. i am sure no one intended to make smartphone unusable, but that is what is happening.
I'm in Sioux Falls SD and after switching to prepaid I have days at a time where I'm this slow as well. I can't load images or webpages for minutes at a time in the middle of downtown.
Then I'll have one day with crazy good speed, followed by days of barely opening things.
I agree prepaid has jacked up speeds to try and force post paid I think by verizon.
b5130,
I'm so sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty with your data speeds. I'd be happy to point you in the right direction. Please reach out to our Prepaid Customer Service Team at 888-294-6804 for assistance in troubleshooting the issues you are having with service.

Switched to Verizon prepaid plan on March 31, and I plan to switch back to my old MNVO by April 30.
Spend 40+25(activation fees) for a month with the best network and I got this?
This was the first time I subscribed to Verizon, guess how long it will take me to come back again.
Same problem here. Switched to $40 from $45 for same amount of data and the day the plan renewed, began experiencing extremely slow data speeds and would have to continuously reload pages. My data usage increased 4 fold although I could only use 1/4 as much. This is my only Internet source. I talked to online and store techs., deleted most apps changed all possible settings that could cause it. Now I have my data turned off and restricted when not in use cause I consume so much more data. Every month I'm going to change to At&t but don't do it in time. Tired of having to drive 6 mi to use mcdonalds wifi in order to use the Internet or my apps. Thought if I changed plans again it would be better. I've heard alot that I'm not the only one maybe in order to buy a new phone every other year. You guys suck!

I can't go to the community cause as usual the data is too slow to load (Usually 5min/page if I don't get kicked out) So I have to wait till I drive to town to get on wifi to get your response

I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon prepaid and I regret it. I went from 40mbs to 1-3mbs with 4 bars!
Jasonp27, we expect our customers to have nothing but stellar service with our cellular network. We're happy that you joined the Verizon Wireless family, but, we want to make sure that we can speed things up for you. Are you having these speeds while indoors and outdoors? May I have your nearest intersection and City so I can accurately pinpoint your location?

I came over from Xfinity mobile because of the slow speeds especially when I travel to Orlando. I thought it was going to be better since I went from a MVNO using unlimited to Verizon prepaid 8GB plan. It seems there is no longer a hiarchy from Postpaid/Prepaid/MVNO. Last time I went to Orlando the service was unusable. I thought the service wasn't de-prioritized until you hit your data cap but apparently I was wrong. Guess it's time to leave and give at&t prepaid a shot since I hear they don't de-prioritize so aggressively.
Just got signed up with Verizon Prepaid. Horrible speed. I"m getting 1.5-2.5 speeds. Was getting 65 with Tmobile.
I'm sending the Sim cards back, but they won't give me a refund. So I'm out $88 just for trying Verizon for one day. Talk about getting messed up. So much for the 14 day "rest easy" guarantee that was on my Verizon paperwork.
After at least 12 calls to the useless Customer Service reps who can only apologize and not solve my problem, I am just about done with Verizon! Thinking back that I will never get at least 15 hours of my life back, I gave up on contacting them. Coming on this Forum is my last ditch effort to get some ansnwers and solution. Otherwise I am dumping Verizon!
I have bought an unlimited AT&T data plan with OTR Mobile for straight $60 a month as a back up to the inept Verizon service for my cellular router. Thank God I bought it because Verizon would had me fired from my job, as I would never be able to connect to do conference calls!
nothing but stellar service .....
ya right. dropped calls, no or very limited data, all because we prepaid. what a stab in the back.
does anyone at management even read these? nothing is done with it for years of complaints.
Same issue for me, SLOW LTE data speed. I recently switched to Verizon prepaid from T-mobile and experiencing extremely slow to no data service. I ride on commuter train from NYC to Westchester county and used to get better service with T-mobile. I compared my issue with customers sitting next to me with post-paid data service and it's unbelieveable that they are getting over 50mb while I barely get .12 mb speed on the same iPhoneX (I'm comparing Apple to Apple iPhoneX). I barely used 1GIG on my 16GIG data plan, Verizon please fix this. Considering so many complaints in this forum this could easily end up in class action lawsuit.
My data speed on Verizon prePaid:

I've had Verizon prepaid plan for 5+ years and the quality of service has significantly declined. I too will be making the switch to AT&T! I dont believe in contracts. btw im using a brand new Samsung Note 10+ 5G Verizon phone.
We'd hate to see you leave, Jaylee5064! Having service you can rely on is crucial. We definitely want to look into this with you. To assist getting to the bottom of this, what specific issues are you having with your service? Is it speed trouble, phone calls not going through or being received, text messages not sending, or receiving? Any details you can provide would be very helpful. Also, have you attempted any troubleshooting on your own? We don't want you to repeat any steps you may have already done.
