Prepaid TravelPass

I have a prepaid plan and carry a zero balance.   If I activate TravelPass before I leave on an international trip, but do not add any funds, what would happen?  Would this simply result in my phone being unable to place or receive calls?  Or would the phone still be usable, and subject me to pay-as-you-go rates for data and texts?

Hey! I hope you enjoy your travels. I certainly understand wanting to get the information you need before you leave and I'd be happy to assist. You must have enough funds in their Prepaid account to cover your daily fee to begin the TravelPass session. If there are no funds, you will receive a notice to add funds in order to use it.

Thank you.  Let me follow on.  Suppose I receive the text message requesting that I add funds, but don't do so immediately for whatever reason. Which of these would happen?

(1) I would simply be unable to use the phone to place or receive calls/texts, OR

(2) Would I still be able to use the phone without Travelpass (and if that is possible, would that subject me to pay-as-you-go rates for data and texts)?

Thank you!

I was wondering about the prepaid Travel Pass myself, as I'd gotten an automated text notification some time ago saying this feature was gradually being added to all prepaid lines.  It says there's a way to opt out of the Travel Pass altogether, but because it hasn't come to my line yet, I don't see anything in my account as of now to disable it?

Another question: If there is a zero balance in the prepaid account, then the Travel Pass thing won't work regardless.  But what if someone does have a balance for whatever reason and is overseas?  Will their balance then be auto-debited for Travel Pass?  This could potentially clean someone out if they were keeping that balance for paying their monthly subscription.  😮

In my experience, the answer is "yes" - if the user has enabled TravelPass, and it is triggered, it will automatically debit from the account balance if there are sufficient funds.  So make sure to have enough to cover monthly fees AND TravelPass in this situation.

Now I'm scared.  From some of the stories I've read from postpaid customers regarding international service, I'd be willing to bet if you have no balance in your account and your phone is active for whatever reason outside the US...here come huge international roaming fees...  Put your phone in airplane mode, shut it off, and/or take out your SIM card if you don't want a gigantic bill when you get home.
