I got a text from Verizon earlier today saying that by July 2025, the device unlocking policy for prepaid phones is changing to a requirement for usage on Verizon's network for 60 days. This is what the policy is for postpaid. My question is this though:
No prepaid service plan ever lasts more than 31 days, because prepaid customers are paying by the month and the plan automatically expires after that month is up. We do get a "renewal" if we pay for another month on our plan's expiration date. Will the system be tracking number of plan renewals when calculating when a phone is eligible to unlock? What if someone changes their prepaid plan type during the month? I'm wondering if the whole "month only" thing is going to keep a phone permanently locked, because a prepaid customer can never amass a total of 60 days in "one" prepaid service plan.
