Basic visual voicemail not working

As of earlier this week the Basic Visual Voicemail app on my Samsung S23 has stopped working. When someone calls and leaves a message, instead of getting a new message notification, I get a "Something went wrong" notification from the app. When I check the app, I see no messages, but when I call into visual voicemail, the message is there. I have performed all of the troubleshooting steps on the website and contacted Verizon and they have put me through all the same troubleshooting steps. Nothing has fixed it. Anybody have any ideas?

For the record, my cellular connection works fine. I can make and receive calls and browse the internet, even with WiFi off.

The stuff I found on the website about the basic visual voicemail tells me this is a pretty old app.  It's a common thing for old software to not work on newer devices.  From what you're describing, it's clearly a problem with the app.  Verizon has been retiring old apps in recent months (VText is gone, and Messages+ is soon to be gone in a week or so).  Could be they're getting ready to retire visual voicemail too?  At least with the basic service it's free, so while a hassle that it doesn't work like it should, at least it also isn't costing you money.

We wiill be glad to help you get your voicemail working properly. How do you normally access your voicemail? Have you made any recent changes to your account or device? ~Geo

I access my voicemail through the Verizon provided voicemail app on my S23. I have not made any recent changes to my account or device, no new services, settings or apps.

Thanks for confirming those details with us, mickeyshout65. Let's keep working on this. What happens if you reset the Voicemail application by following these steps: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-304070/

Thank you. I did that, as suggested. Then I tried to open the Voicemail app. It said "checking account information" and then errored put with that same "something went wrong" notification. I had my wife call me and leave a message, and again, instead of getting a notification that I had a message, I got a notification that "something went wrong."

I am having the exact same issue. I have exhausted all remedies on my end.  I have a S23 FE.

We are here for you. Please tell us, where did you purchase your device? Are all apps up to date?
