I want to have a second phone as a backup. I realize I can't use two phones on one line.
If one phone dies I want to be able to switch to the new phone wothout any downtime waiting on the phone for verizon to activate it.
My current phone has an ESIM. New phone does not have a SIM card or ESIM.
If I delete the ESIM from my current phone and put a SIM card in it, will I be able to switch the SIM card to the new phone and use the new phone, without going through verizon to activate it?

You are correct. Once you activate the SIM card, you can swap it from devices and the device with the SIM card will be active with service since the SIM card is what is needed to get service on the device. You can go to one of our stores and get a SIM card there if you need it right away. ~Peter

Thank you for reaching out about how devices can be swapped. I want to make sure we're aligned with what you're trying to do. Does your new phone have a physical SIM option as well as the eSIM?

Yes. Both phones can accept a physical SIM card or ESIM

Thank you for the clarification. If you use a SIM card that is already activated on the new device, it won't be necessary to reach out to activate it again, as the service will already be active on the card itself.

But can I activate a SIM card for the new phone without deactivating the phone I am using? Again, I will not be using both phones at the same time, I realize I can't, I just want to turn on the new phone and use it without contacting Verizon to activate it when the old phone dies.
Can I order a SIM card from Verizon for the new phone and it will activate my phone without having to deactivate my old phone?
Thank you.
