Google Assistant Activation on Samsung

Yeah, old guy here here exasperatingly whining about things changing.  ๐Ÿ˜

After the most recent system update on my S21, swiping from the bottom left worked to activate the assistant, but that has now stopped working.

I now have the long touch on the power button activating assistant but I'd rather use that for the power off menu and keep the swipe from bottom left for the assistant.

Is swiping from bottom left no longer possible or am I just missing something somewhere?

Thank you!

We understand that software updates can change how things have worked in the past. At this time there isnt an option to change the Google Assistant back to the way you had it before. That said, you can provide feedback.

  1. Open the Google app.
  2. At the bottom right of the Home screen, tap More.Send feedback.
  3. Tell us about the issue.
  4. Tap Send

We can understand wanting your settings to stay how you like them! Currently it looks like Samsung mentions that you can use the Home Button to activate or even set up voice activation for the assistant.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for?

Thanks for replying, but not really.

I don't want to use "hey google" and according to the response above from Verizon what I want (and what was working and stopped working on it's own) Samsung did away with.

You're welcome and sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.  If you can't configure your phone's Home button to turn on the Google Assistant, then the only thing I can think of is to switch to the "hey Google" thing.

The long press of the power button does work for the assistant, I was just hoping to keep that bringing up the power menu.  Oh well.

Thanks again

Not the power button, but the little circle near the bottom of your phone screen is the "home" button - have you tried long pressing that icon to see if it brings up the assistant?

Oops, sorry, a little slow on the uptake there. Long touch on that does a Google search, but not the assistant where I can set a reminder. If there's a way to make a long touch on that start the assistant I'm not seeing it.
