I am trading in an old Samsung S5 and I want it wiped clean but it won't turn on, or take a charge. I cannot do a factory reset using the buttons. Help!

Joe, the OP just said they *can't* turn on the phone or do the thing with the buttons...
If the phone can't be turned on at all even if the charging cable is plugged in, how much of a risk is it to leave whatever there is on the phone? Or maybe they can have a repair shop take the phone apart for recycling and separate the parts?
