When and if a phone OS is updated isn't exclusively up to the carrier it is operating on. There are a number of factors that can go into determining if a phone or other device has its software updated. If this is a priority in your mind, factor that into your decision process when purchasing your next phone. I did, and that and other reasons removed any Samsung phone from my list of potential phone purchases years ago even if they have improved their ability to get software updates out in a timely manner.

Hey there, Tayoe. We know it's important to keep your device up to date, and we'd love to help. Please tell us, what do you see on your end when you go to Settings>>Software Update>>Check for software update? When you go to Settings>>About phone, what software information do you see under the Build number?
