Volume turns down on it's own randomly

The volume on my phone will turn itself down when watching videos, listening to music and (specifically) when I get a notification from TikTok.  It is the equivalent of pressing the volume down button twice.  This only happens when the phone is at full volume.  It doesn't do this when connected to Bluetooth or another device.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S24 plus. I use to have a Samsung Galaxy S20FE. The problem started in the S20 about a year or so ago.  I just upgraded to the S24 plus literally 5 days ago from the posting date.  I figured with the new phone I wouldn't have problems.

I have tried all the troubleshooting I've seen on the internet. I've restarted the phone, held the volume up button for an extended amount of time, held both the up and down buttons simultaneously for an extended amount of time, made sure all the limiters I could find in the settings are off.  Nothing has worked.

On the S20FE it happened after an update and it never was fixed. Is it possible that a bug was transferred from one phone to the other?

Does anyone have a way to fix this issue? Will it be fixed in a new update?

It's frustrating that the problem exists on a brand new phone.

Hello, being on top of your equipment is crucial, especially if you are managing your audio. Verizon is here to help.

Aside from the upgrade, any other changes? Does this occur only with TikTok videos, music and notifications? Who else is experiencing this problem?

Since I haven't had the S24 plus for a long time, I haven't noticed all the same issues, but I'm assuming they are coming.

The volume turns down when I watch any kind of video. I mostly notice it when I am watching lengthy YouTube videos. It also turn down when I am listening to music. I use Spotify and it will turn down when I'm using it. Sometimes I can get through a whole song without an issue, sometimes it will happen multiple times. Seems completely random.

For TikTok, if I have a video or music playing in the background and I get a notification it will turn the volume down. No other notification does this.

The issue seems random too as I can go days without the issue or the issue happens like every 2 minutes. There is no rhyme or reason.

Thanks so much for that information, 419beard0! You mentioned that this happened on your old device after a software update. Based on what you've shared, it's possible this may be a software bug. Do you know if the issue persists after placing your phone in Safe Mode: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-306179/ When you switched from the S20FE to the S24+ did you restore a backup or set it up as a new device?

I have not heard of safe mode.

I used smart switch to transfer all my data to the new phone

Safe Mode is a mode that can be used on Android devices to test certain things, without the possibility of 3rd Party apps or programs getting in the way. It does not involve the transfer of your information. You can see how to open the phone in Safe Mode here: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-306179/

Please open the phone in Safe Mode using the steps in that link. Then do a few things that involve your volume. Test and see if the volume adjusts while in Safe Mode. If it doesn't, then that suggests a software or app may be having issues.  In that case, I'd then recommend updating apps and then checking for an update for the phone itself. I've got links on how to do both below.

Update Apps on Android: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/113412?hl=en

Check for an update for Android phone: https://support.google.com/android/answer/7680439?hl=en

Please test in safe mode, and let us know what you find.
