Does RCS texting apply to your data usage, or texting usage?

Just saw the Knowledge Hub article about troubleshooting RCS texting issues and am now wondering how RCS messaging is "counted" by Verizon.  Does it apply to your data usage, or does it fall into the texting usage? All current service plans have unlimited talk/text, but data is limited on some plans.

In case anyone's wondering, I still use the older SMS/MMS because several people I text regularly have older phones of which I'm not sure RCS is supported.  But as time goes on and they upgrade their devices, RCS would be better, unless it eats up my data allotment.  I am not on an unlimited plan.

Anyone?  I'm inclined to think RCS texts go on your data usage, which isn't good if you're on a metered data plan and makes me wonder if that's how some customers are astonished when they find they're out of data in a very short period.
