When Verizon Wireless discontinues 2G and 3G in 2021, does that mean that any Verizon Wireless phone's 2G and 3G frequencies will no longer work?
Yes just like anyone with an old analog phone when everyone went all digital those phones no longer worked. Verizon will stop selling 2G and 3G phones long before the cut off date. Verizon is actually refarming some of their 3G spectrum right now in many larger cities. 3G only smartphones are dwindling at pretty good pace. I think about 88% of all Verizon smartphones are 4G now. I doubt anyone would have a functioning 3G only smartphone by 2021 nor do I think they would want to use it. Basic phones usage is shrinking too but not as fast. Verizon will either have to kill off basic phones or have 4G enabled basic phones being offered by end of 2018 I would think.
