My Cellular speed is extremely slow with 5 bars of LTE coverage

I am trying to understand what is going on in my area. I have been a verizon customer for 8 years. I have two phones through them and have a tower on my property here in Central New York. (13166 zip code) Over the last month or two I have noticed data speeds slowing to a crawl. (.2Mbps Download and less upload) Including a 400-500ms latency. I have asked around and it seems to be multiple customers on the verizon network here. I have 5 bars of LTE coverage, but specifically between 4PM and 9PM EST my data speeds drop to an unusable rate. Quite concerning as this is my only internet source. Is this what we are paying extra for? Looking for some sort of intelligible response.

I have a 12GB plan, but typically use ~6GB per month. I am rarely anywhere but home at 5-9PM. I have experienced slowdowns elsewhere, but not to the level as when I'm connected to my tower.

Showing 5 bars indicates that a strong signal is present. The tower could be congested during those hours.

In another topic, it was suggested that users who have tiered plans, but, also subscribe to overage protection, are being throttled in the same manner as users who have any of the three recent Unlimited plans. Do you have that optional coverage?

I realize that the tower is congested, I'm wondering why the congestion on the tower isn't being fixed... we aren't talking a slight slowdown. We are talking dial-up speeds... if you are referring to "safe mode", it is disabled. Tech support said this would "throttle normal data usage" that was not correct. I turned it off a month ago and continued my speed testing with identical results.

The Safety Mode only slows speeds when you reach your cap. It does not kick in at any time before that and slow your speeds.

Unfortunately I'm finding this to be the norm with Verizon even in my area outside of Nashville TN. My family pays WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for service that is non-existent 90 % of the time.

In Memphis I and the rest of my coworkers have experienced the same. 5 bars of signal strength, and consistent speed test scores of 0.35 - 0.80 Mbs down and around the same up.

This has been the case since at least July when I began speed testing regularly. Several of my co-workers have go to Verizon stores in the area only to be told it's a problem with their phones (multiple brands and models) even after they explain that others are seeing the same thing.

This seems to be a very pervasive issue right now. I get that Verizon is focused on the 5G network, but I pay for a 4G plan so I expect to get 4G speeds most of the time. Right now I don't ever get 4G speeds.

I've been a Verizon customer for over 10 years, but this has me ready to try out another carrier.

I got the same run around for a while. Seems like they are afraid to admit it. 5G still will need Backhaul bandwidth, which is looking maxed out right now...

I have had a Verizon Jetpack hotspot for two year and the internet is horrible they give me 15 GB of decently good internet which if I am not careful will get used up in a day. I am at a truck stop in Dilly TX got 5 bars but download is 85.7 kbps and upload is 217.1. I bought hotspot to play my video games online but most the time it is impossible.

Bars doesn't equate speed. I wish people would get that. All bars show is signal strength. And even that is arbitrary since there is no standard to waht the bars mean. Each phone makers makes 2,3,4,5 bars means whatever they want it to mean.

You don't mention which jetpack you have. Also the prepaid jetpack plan might be better for you.

We understand looking for the best service. After 15GB your speeds will slow down to up to 600Kbps. During congestion, you may exprience lower speeds. A hotspot, while great for traveling, is never meant to replace an in-home Wi-Fi network. For gaming, you require a constrant streaming of inforamtion that may use your 15GB of data farily quick. As mentioned by boringusername, you may benefit from our prepaid. Take a look at options here, https://www.verizonwireless.com/prepaid/.

I second that, I never experienced issues two years ago with my service being extremely slow. All of 2019 Verizon service had been terrible in any populated areas. I feel that Verizon is constantly recruiting people to join their network claiming to be the best but your not doing anything to support the increased population of people using the network. I pay top dollar to have Verizon and am extremely disappointed this last year with how extremely slow the service has become. If your going to recruit all these people to join Verizon you need to be able to support large volumes of people using the network in one area
