Suddenly can not send emails; still receiving them. Using Thunderbird. Get message that I can not sign into server.
We are having a problem with smtp.verizon.net this morning. Anyone else?
Yes! I cannot SEND any emails from Outlook or Android phone. I tried everything! In the New York area...
Yes! I cannot also SEND any emails from Outlook or Android phone. I tried everything! I can receive my emails though.
I cannot send either. Verizon support simply referred me to AOL since my email support migrated to AOL. Are you all migrated to AOL too?
Yes, I'm having the same problem sending emails. I was migrated to AOL a few years ago.
same issue here, tried Thunderbird, Outlook and on my cell phone. Can receive, but can't send. I can log on and send/receive via AOL website. I have been on hold with AOL tech support for 15 minutes (800-827-6364)

Can you please update this thread once you make contact with AOL support? I was on hold for awhile but had to give up.
Am I glad I found this thread--I've been dealing with this all day.
What was weird was that I couldn't send any emails from one computer, but another worked fine, until this afternoon, when it stopped working also.
Hope we get an answer soon!
The problem is still going on here. I tried every and all Outlook / Android setup combo possible and it will just not do it (send emails).I can and do RECEIVE any of the emails on my devices, but cannot send from any of my four 4 "xxxxxxx@Verizon.net" accounts.
Again, I can go to https://mail.aol.com and login and reply from there (and it works!), but since I am running POP3, those replies will never be added to my Outlook, unless I manually CC myself on every reply.Verizon / AOL / Yahoo -- whoever, PLEASE get this fixed ASAP!
Having same problem from computer....no outgoing all of a sudden. Gives a 450 error. Receiving fine and can send via my phone OK on the same account. Husband not having any issues on his laptop, which is using Outlook with a second email in our Verizon account. so its just one laptop, suddenly can't send but phone works fine and other email addresses in same Verizon account working fine also. **bleep**, O?
I gave up on hold once I saw that others were having same issue. I believe it is a server issue on Verizon/Aol's end. This happened a few years ago and it started working after a few hours. As far as I know it has been down for over a day.
I cannot send emails from my outlook on my computer or from my phone.
Check out this link. It seems that AOL is limiting 3rd party Apps from accessing e-mail. You need to generate an app specific password from your AOL e-mail Security settings to access and send e-mail from Outlook. I was able to do this on my Outlook 2007 to access and send e-mail. Still can not send e-mail from my other computer with Outlook 2003 despite setting up a separate password for it.

It's working now for me on both Outlook and Android phone.
Turns out that the problem appears that the Login name now needs to include @verizon.net. I found a post on the internet from 2009 that mentioned something like that but ever since Verizon transitioned email to AOL, our Login's configured in outlook and Mail used just our email addresses names without the @verizon.net and has worked perfectly fine for better than 3 years. Something must have changed overnight at AOL that no longer recognized the Login name without @verizon.net on their outgoing mail server. Even Verizon's Faq at
https://www.verizon.com/cs/groups/public/documents/adacct/setup-email-mobile-device.pdf
indicates the Login should be without the @verizon.net (page 6). I added the @verizon.net to the Login name on all accounts on all platforms and everything is now working fine. So much for the $14.99 monthly cost of customer service from AOL.
Original problem first surfaced for us on 4/7/2020 affecting POP3 accounts set up using different @verizon.net email accounts on separate PC and iPad devices using Outlook and Mail clients. No problem with incoming just outgoing. Suspected an issue with smtp.verion.net so tried contacting AOL but after 3 hours on hold and only a few minutes speaking to anyone live and having had to subscribe to the $14.99/mo support servcie, the only thing anyone could say was that something with our mail client must have changed. Well that was total **bleep** give that multiple platforms and clients and email accounts were affected. After searching for answers on the internet while waiting on hold, I came across a 2009 post long before the AOL migration that talked about needing the @verizon.net in the Login so I gave that a try and it worked and when I applied the same fix to the other accounts, devices and clients, our problems were resolved.
mine is working again
I still can not get send e-mails from my Outlook 2003 desktop application. I can receive e-mails. I get an error message that there was no response from the server and to verify that the port and SSL information is correct. I am using smtp.verizon.net for outgoing server and port 465 with SSL enabled. Anyone else having this problem?
That seems to have done the trick for us...thanks! One thing to note is that the new PW from the AOL generator needs to be put in the Outlook advanced settings for the SMPT server, not in the main Outlook account settings for the POP server. Hope that's not too confusing. thanks again!
Thank you very much Glonj. I use Thunderbird and just added the @verizon.net to my user name and now everything is working.
Dear Farbri:
I need to use the new AOL generated password for the SMTP server and for the main Outlook account settings for the POP server, otherwise Outlook fails to log into the POP server. I still can't send outgoing e-mails from my Outlook 2003 account. The error message suggests a problem with SSL or the port setting. I wonder if AOL no longer supports Outlook 2003. Has anyone had success with Outlook 2003 sending out emails?
As of 4/8/2020

I lost the ability to send and receive on Windows10 Mail (tablet) and Samsung Email (cellphone) on 4/7. I was able to receive but not send using Thunderbird (desktop). However, as of 4/15, I can no longer send or receive on Thunderbird. I can access mail via mail.aol, so I know my account is active. I already had @verizon.net as part of my user ID and name.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
I have been able to get Samsung email client running using the aol password generator but no luck with T Windows 10 mail. Thunderbird is now recieving again, but not sending.
Grateful for any thoughts.
