Message to change POP settings

I got a message from Verizon to change my POP settings on my Outlook and my phone. the email said to check the website in My Verizon for notification messages to check the validity of the email if I questioned it.
There are no notifications under the New Notifications section.
So can anyone tell me if this notification came from Verizon? Do I really need to change my incoming and outgoing mail servers and port settings? Or is this a scam to cause huge disruptions to our email?

And if it IS real, and from Verizon, why don't they post the notification after referring to it in an email?

Is this real? Does it apply to iPhone email accounts?

Yes.  I called Verizon tech support (twice) to verify that this email was truly valid.  It is.  I was able to change my Outlook email info on my PC but when trying to update my iPhone, the incoming server name (pop.verizon.net) could not be activated.  Tech support said I would have to pay for premium service since this was an iPhone issue--imagine the gall!! Like Apple would take responsibility for verizon's upgrades!  If anyone with an iPhone has been able to make this work, can you please let me know? (the smtp outgoing server is fine).

I had problems too. Found the answer in another thread. Turn off the iPhone, wait, then turn it back on. I did it and it worked.

I tried this several times yesterday and again today. My iPhone message is, "The mail server "pop.verizon.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings."  Doesn't work on my friend's iPhone either, so I know it's not just me.

I also made these changes and it didn't work. This is all a big nuisance. Why does Verizon have to hassle us by making these stupid changes. Maybe I should dump verizon and go back to comcast.

Iphone users MUST completely shut down their phones and start them again for these changes to work.

And you really must make the changes before they shutdown the old servers.

I changed the settings on the phone, rebooted the phone and as a result, lost all the email on my phone.  So much for the suggestion - but most of us have probably done this.

Need some advice on using Outlook 2007 with Verizon fios: I think the problem I'm having is connected to the changes in settings that Verizon offered several months ago, but I actually don't know. Receiving email works fine. Sending email from Outlook gives me tis message:

Task:{edited for privacy} sending error 0X800CCC13  Cannot connect to network. Verify your network connection or server.

I use two email accounts through Outlook 2007. The account that goes through Microsoft receives and sends perfectly. The verizon.net account Receives mail, but sent items sit in the Outbox and don't go out.

Can you help me fix this?

Question: Are you using this in a work setting?  When you say "Going through Microsoft" it sounds like perhaps you're in a MS Exchange environment.  If this is the case there is the possibility your company has the new ourgoing port blocked (For your Verizon/POP account).  Some NE's (Network Engineers) don't like users accessing non-essential ports and will block them as that increases network security.  Open, unused ports creates vulnerabilities.

I am trying to set up a verizon.net email account on my Android phone, Email version 2.3.4 . The Verizon troubleshooter "for all Android phones" was either outdated, incorrect, or does not apply to MY Android phone for some reason. Step 2 refers to a tab that my Android does not display.

Here are the steps and settings that I have used, in order:

Email address: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

Tapped Manual setup

Tapped POP3

Username: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

POP3 server: pop.verizon.net

Port: 995

Security type: SSL

Delete email from server: Never

Tapped Next

Error message: Setup could not finish Username or password incorrect. Edit details

I read how older settings were working for other people, so I started over using the old settings:

Email address: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

Tapped Manual setup

Tapped POP3

Username: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

POP3 server: incoming.verizon.net

Port: 110

Security type: SSL

Delete email from server: Never

Tapped Next

Error message: Setup could not finish Cannot safely connect to server. (SSL handshake aborted:...a bunch of codes...)

I am positive I typed my password correctly as it works fine on the Verizon.net  webpage. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong I'd sure like the help.

Only thing that jumps out at me is username is not the email address. That will cause it to fail authentication on some mail servers.  Username is typically whatever is before the @ symbol.  Give that a try and see what happens.

If that fails can you provide more info like the phone make/type?  Also, what version of Android you're running.  My phone is actually considered "old" with a rather "old" version of Droid but works perfectly with Verizon so I feel pretty confident yours should be working unless your phone is more than 3 years old.

The way my phone works, I can't set up SMTP settings until it successfully communicates with the POP3 server.

It would seem that I am at a paradoxical impasse. I cannot set up SMTP until I communicate with POP3, and I can't communicate with POP3 unless SMTP is set up. Is there no way out of this?

Not sure why it doesn't work for you.  You seem to be following the steps listed in. https://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome/VZRepair/vziha/Service.aspx?ihaweb=EmailSetup

I don't have an android phone to test but many others do.

After speaking with tech support, my problem is resolved. The published Verizon settings did not work for me:

Email address: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

Tapped Manual setup

Tapped POP3

Username: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

POP3 server: pop.verizon.net

Port: 995

Security type: SSL

Delete email from server: Never

Tapped Next

Error message: Setup could not finish Username or password incorrect. Edit details

The settings below did work. I'd say it's worth a try for anyone with the same problem:

Email address: {edited for privacy}@verizon.net

Password: **********

Tapped Manual setup

Tapped POP3

Username: {edited for privacy}

Password: **********

POP3 server: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net

Port: 110

Security type: None

Delete email from server: Never

Tapped Next

SMTP server: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

Port: 587

Security type: None

Sign in required: Checked

Username: {edited for privacy}

Password: **********
