I use Outlook to get to my Verizon email.  On Wednesday 9/17/14, mail went down as I was unable to connect to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net.  WebMail was also unavailable as I was unable to log in sucessfully.

On Friday 9/19/14, support told me "there was an outage and I should try again in 24 hours".

On Sunday 9/21/14, I was able to get to WebMail, but I am still unable to connect via Outlook...

Any help would be appreciated!

Finally figured out how to fix the problem.  The get your IP address unblocked go to:

www.verizon.net/whitelist

If that doesn't work send an email to:

abuse@verizon.net

Subject: Issue accessing my Verizon email using outlook

In the Message include your information below (not in italics):

Your Name         John Doe

email address     jdoe@verizon.net

Phone #             XXX-XXX-XXXX

User Name         vz username: jdoe

User ID              vz userid: jdoe

IP Address         IP address: XXX.XXX.XX.XXX

Yazdizk - you're so right! I'm still blown away that verizon turned off our international/traveling access without notice or even after the fact "known issues or outages" still not being posted on their support site, even now a full month later. I guess I'm still mourning having to quit using my verizon email account.

I have this same problem everyone else is having since September.  I can access my verizon email using outlook from verizon fios network or from LTE on my iphone but not from my time warner home network.  I chatted with Jagadish on live chat and asked to free the restriction on my IP address and he indicated he would forward it to the email team so I'll see how this works.  It seems time warner uses dynamic IP addresses though, so I'm not sure how this is going to work.

Hallelu hallelu hallelu halleluiah...praise ye the Lord!

So excited, my Sunday School teacher self is in high gear. Email is back! Jithesh (the support tech who wrote my trouble ticket, thank  you taxman123 and others for getting to the bottom of the blacklist problem) even called to tell me/make sure. I didn't even have my apple mail open--but hit the button and look! Lovely little red notification circle instead of grey exclamation point!

I hope everyone is now able to get this solved. And I know we've all been frustrated-to-infuriated at the lack of communication from verizon on this issue, but I will say again I had many techs who were as frustrated as I was and did their best. Do insist insist insist that you need a trouble ticket open, like taxman123 says. Point them to the forums. Read them the posts. And if you're lucky, you'll get Jithesh.

Thanks again to everyone for posting with pointers, leads, solutions, and just moral support.

Must be nice!  I'm happy for you, but my latest is that they say my IP address is not blocked...  Still have hope, but it's fading fast.  Will try the trouble ticket versus email.

BudPalChief, I feel your pain. I also have this exact same problem. I'm with Time Warner and even thought I showed the tech support girl this forum post AND even read it to her she wanted to transfer me to Microsoft saying its a problem with Outlook.

I got so frustrated with her I just hanged up the phone.

I know its not a problem with outlook. I have two ISPs in my office TWC and Verizon. If I plug in my Verizon internet Oulook works with my verizon email. If I change to my TWC internet Outlook cannot connect to pop.verizon.net.

I EVEN EXPLAINED ALL OF THIS TO HER! AND SHE STILL CLAIMS ITS A PROBLEM WITH OUTLOOK

I then downloaded Thunderbird and again the verizon email works with the verizon internet and but not with TWC internet.

I'm going to try again later to get another person

They are all silent about the issue. Not even acknowledging that there is a problem.

Nope.  Best results are to be polite but firm about describing your problem.

They, at least above the lowest levels, are well aware of some of the recent problems and what needs to be done to fix them.

I give up...!!!

I spent 4 hours yesterday on multiple chat sessions and phone calls with Verizon.  Thought I was really close with one rep who was creating a ticket for me to get my IP address unblocked, but he was having trouble creating the ticket.  In the end, he gave me an escalation number and gave me a number for Frontier Services.  Said to just call them and give them the escalation and they would create a ticket for me.  Of course, they had no idea what I was talking about, so was forced back to square one... (Again)

I've now set up forwarding in my Verizon WebMail sending to a new email account I can use Outlook with.  Will be a long process to get everybody off the old Verizon address that I've been using for 17 years...  Sometimes, you just have to cut your losses...

This whole experience has been an disheartening at best.  I never thought a company the size of Verizon could be so uncaring and incompetent when it comes to supporting their customers!  They never admitted a problem and worse yet, didn't even communicate the issue to their support staff.  I'll definately think twice before doing anything with Verizon in the future.

Good luck to the rest of you and please share any solutions you may find!

You had the right idea, BudPalChief. After 4 days of working fine, email via the home server is gone again. I'm out...hello, gmail!

Dear Friends, I have had the same issue, but international. I have been told by supervisor that it is a new policy to block all international IP addresses from access to the POP or SMTP server. If so, this is bizarre, as the very purpose of email is portable use of the client, not webmail. No one doing anything more complicated or secure than socialising, or worse, requiring a secured copy for govt or business purposes, can use verizon email at this point. Someone thought very wrongly at the top of the food chain. Best, martin

I bought my domain name from Verizon, so I didn't lose my email address that I have had for 8 years. We cancelled verizon internet & went with shentel. I pay a fee to Verizon to maintain my email. This morning my email stopped working. I called verizon & was transferred to 5 departments & all of them 'accidentally' disconnected me while transferring. So problem is still not resolved. Their online help is also worthless.

I am in the situation as BudPalChief.  No longer have FIOS, but retained my verizon.net account.  No longer getting emails to my phone; unable to send emails.  Work around to get emails to phone is to turn wifi off, go to email and refresh, then turn wifi back on.  ISP is ATT UVerse.  Settings on phone are correct.  Verizon tech seem to say it is a FIOS issue, FIOS says it is a DSL issue, DSL says it is an Email issue; Email says that it is a Communication isse; communication says that it is a Wireless issue, and Wireless says it is a FIOS issus, and the circle begins agains.  I have been on 3 separate chats for a total of over 5 hours, tech support 3 times for 4 hours, and still not resolved.  I am able to get email via Webmail, but I need the emails to flow to my phone automaticaly as they had done 3 weeks ago. Verizon, will you please HELP?!!

I finally got help through one of the forums.  I hadn't been able to receive my email at home on my wireless since Sept. 17 o my mac mail or my iphone but could get my mail on my iphone via LTE.  My ISP was blacklisted for some reason.  Whoever I was working with through the forum had my number whitelisted again.  I did see somewhere in this thread about a form to have your ISP whitelisted.  May be worth a try.

OK, maybe i am clueless, but WHY do I have to go to my ISP and get whitelisted?  Also, how does one get whitelisted?  A simple phone call to the ISP?  A simple phone call to Verizon, kindly asking them to contact the ISP to be put on a whitelist?  I'm lost over the process

I was really hopeful that that thread was finally a fix, but I tried both suggestions and got nowhere. I'm glad some people are getting this worked out, but there's still clearly a verizon-wide problem that is leaving many of us high and dry.

Yes, taxman23, I'm Time Warner. I saw on another thread that you're also Time Warner and got it solved? Please tell us how!?

The problem was that Verizon had restricted time warner's public IP address for me. I called Verizon and they created a repair ticket to release my IP address (which I gave them) in 24 hours it was fixed.
