Verizon email protocol changes & Windows Live Mail

I hope someone can help - verizon tech support couldn't.  I have Windows 7 and Live Mail on my laptop.  The changes that Verizon says I need to make to the  settings to get email through my Live Mail do not work and the Sept 2013 deadline is here.   If I change the POP and SMTP settings & Ports I cannot send or receive email.  I have tried every combination and checked/unchecked the various boxes and nothing helps.  Verizon says the problem is Microsoft.  I reloaded Live Mail and that didn't change anything.  I don't know if there is another Microsoft email program that I can get that will work.  As I do not like the way email is displayed at Verizon.net I sure hope there is a solution.

I ahve a Windows 7 laptop with Live Mail.  The following settings do work.

  • Incoming mail server  (POP3): pop.verizon.net
  • Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
  • Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465
  • Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked. (For POP & SMTP)
  • Make sure Password authentication is set to normal.  (or clear text authentication)
  • For the outgoing mail server, "My server requires authentication" should be checked.
  • Your Verizon Online user name is  *****@verizon.net
  • Your Verizon Online password

If you continue to have problems, post a screenshot of your Live Mail settings and we will be better able to identify the problem.

While the advice I got solved the problem I had with not being able to send and receive emails after making the protocol changes, the changes seem to have created a new problem.  I am having "dropped" incoming emails.  That is, they do not appear in Windows Live Mail but they do appear when I sign onto the Verizon.net and look at emails.  I do know that all the emails I have been sent by one specific person in response to emails I have sent have been dropped.  Her email account is a yahoo.com one so I initially thought it might be the problem, but others are being dropped too. I would greatly appreciate any advice on why this is happening and what I can do about it.  This time I thought I would ask the Forum  first since Verizon could not help me with the original problem.

If they are showing up in Webmail, then the issue is most likely not one that Verizon can help you with, anyway. I'm not very familiar with Windows Live Mail, but my *guess* would be that there's some sort of filtering going on. Have you checked in the spam/junk folder?

Thanks for your response.  They are not in Spam/Junk.  Some are from people in my contact list and who I have corresponded with frequently for years with no issue - until I made the required Protocol changes then "gone" immediately.  I agree Verison can't help, they said the first issue was a "Microsoft problem" and, of course, I got a response on this Forum that fixed it.  So I am still hopeful someone might know the reason for this....

I have read some old posts about Windows Live Mail and port settings but I'm receiving a message that says there sever is not responding in Windows Live Mail. However if I go to Verizon Webmail it works fine.

Works fine for most.  Earlier post shows correct settings (unless you are using Yahoo).  Most common error is not setting password to clear.  Note my settings on advanced tab.  For me this instance is not my main email so i have it set to leave email on server.

Hi, I'm also having problems with Live Mail.

I recently had to reinstall my OS and downloaded Live Mail. Everything was working properly at first but by the second day I was receiving emails but I was not able to SEND with my Verizon account. I have a Gmail account set up on Live Mail and that works fine. I checked the settings with the recommendation from the earlier post to ensure they were the same but still can not send. Funny thing is, other then incoming IMAP setting for Gmail, all other setting are the same for the two accounts but can't get the thing to work.

Included 3 screen shots in case I missed something on any part of the set up.

Could relly use some help.

Thanks

Looks like your screenshots weren't approved. You'll have to block/remove any username/password information from them in order for the boards here to allow it.

Somegirl.

Thanks for the heads up. I called Verizon and was able to resolve the issue. My settings were indeed correct but we determined that Norton 360 was preventing me from sending from this account. When we turned it off, the messages went thru. Have since resolved the problem with Norton. Again, thanks for your replying to my post.
