keep getting an error message: Receiving reported error(0x800ccc92): Your email server rejected your login
please help. Can't receive emails on my phone as well,
Also having this problem with two different accounts in the family. Login rejected, yet going through Webmail access, login/password just fine.
Update: It seems secondary accounts from the original Verizon.net email are the ones being affected. The AOL SMTP server appears to be changing the addressing of the clients and shifting it to Yahoo. Even after manually changing it, deleting the account from Outlook 2016 completely, removing it as an account in Windows, etc. (yes, cleared cache files, etc.), still the change occurs. Only logical item left since the Primary email address works and so do other email services in my client, AOL's mail service.
I have done this for two email accounts that have primary and secondary email addresses. Only the secondary stopped working this week.
No help is provided at all from AOL or Verizon.
same exact thing here. Finally seeing some dialogue on this subject. I get same errors on desktop and phone..
I am able to get webmail through AOL
I also did not receive any notes about changes etc
tried changing the POP incoming and outgoing but nothing
I would just like to say "thank you"! I had not had any problems with my email client until January 4th when emails stopped loading. I added my account to 2 other email clients and couldn't get them to load. Then I came across this forum. I don't remember ever receiving any info about a 3rd party password, but it worked. As soon as I used it the emails started pouring in. Thank you all again!
From what I read the password is good in your email client until you disconnect it from aol or delete the program, etc. Then you would have to set up a new one. You continue to use your actual password when logging on to aolmail. This is just a behind the scenes password in the account setup of your email client.
Issue sending/receiving email. AOL had me change my password yesterday and receiving now works but I'm still unable to send email. the SMTP request times out.
My Apple email client has the same issue with the SMTP request failing by timing out after 2 min. I'm beginning to think the problem may lie with verizon servers.
All of the bugs I was experiencing were resolved by changing the account settings from POP to IMAP.
BTW, this is on my primary email (I have no other accounts with verizon/AOL).
OK so happy I found others with the same issue. Everything was working fine and on Christmas eve, everything stopped my phone, my computer nothing gets email. I log into AOL and it works just fine. I have tried IMAP and POP settings and nothing is working. Has anyone resolved this?
After several hours on AOL help phone lines and several password changes, i got transferred to a tech who knew what he was doing, although I needed to relinquish control of my screen to his remote computer to let him set up a new account. One issue was that an explicit SMTP prefix was now required for verizon.net for the outgoing email server (this was not explicitly required until these new changes -many other issues too). Good luck dealing with AOL.
My email stopped syncing on my Samsung android phone on Jan 3rd. Coincidentally my MyFios app updated that same day although I don't think that caused the problem since a rollback and reinstall of the update didn't fix the issue. Deleted my email account from my phone and have tried to re set up manually using Verizon pop and smtp settings but keep getting an error that there is no response from the incoming Verizon server. Today I tried setting up an AOL email account from the phone's preset options and input my Verizon email address and password and everything popped up and is syncing normally now. I would suggest stop trying to manually setup a true pop3 Verizon account and use the AOL preset option if available.
I only have log-in problem with my android phone. The account on the iPad and PC still works. If I generate an app-password to log onto the android phone, will I have to re-log into my PC and iPad with the app-password? Or does the old password still work on those devices?
I have tried 3 times generating an app password to log in with on my android phone outlook. I tried creating passwords for outlook for android outlook. I tried with the spaces as shown and without the spaces. Nothing works.
Amu update on this. I am having same issue as well
Looks like the dreaded AOL "security" has hit my devices. However, trying to access my Verizon email this morning failed on all devices:
HP computer using Outlook
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G using Gmail app
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 using Gmail app
I followed the directions to create a one time app password for my tablet and phone which failed. I generated several one time passwords but all failed.
I created a one time app password for my computer and immediately downloaded email. However, once I tried to send an email the send feature failed due to password. I went back to the AOL security page, deleted the Outlook password and generated another one. This time I put the AOL app password in both incoming and outgoing fields. Still fails.
I have multiple email accounts at AOL in the verizon.net domain. They have worked fine for years with both Outlook on Windows 10 and BlueMail under Android.
Today, one of the accounts at AOL began rejecting logins, with Outlook reporting 0x800CCC92 and BlueMail failing silently.
The other account works.
I've Googled this, and anything specific to Outlook (e.g. too large a .pst file) is pretty much ruled out, since AOL is rejecting both clients.
Any ideas?
Can you share the "explicit SMTP prefix?" I have 2 Verizon (AOL) email accounts. One is working fine. The other is working on my PC but, suddenly yesterday, not on my 2021 iPad Pro. I restarted the iPad. I deleted the email account and reentered it. I reentered with the non-manual AOL option. I got an assortment of pop-up messages, e.g., cannot send mail user's name or password is incorrect; sender's address was invalid; IMAP server pop.verizon.net is not responding. After spending the day trying things and being crazy with this, incoming mail started to work, not in response to anything I did! But outgoing is still not working: "The connection to the outgoing server 'SMTP' failed." Is there any way to reconfigure the SMTP to make it work? Or if I was stupid enough not to change my Verizon email when it became AOL, then I either have patience until it "fixes itself" or I go through the laborious process of notifying all contacts that my email has changed. Suggestions for : 1) best way to contact an actual AOL person for help; and 2) best email provider to switch to?
Please tell me what worked, Same problem, don't know what to do.
By explicit I meant: SMTP.verizon.net . My original account setting was just verizon.net for the SMTP server and relied on the Apple email client to provide the SMTP which apparently stopped working. The ultimate fix for that and other problems appears to be getting a new password generated by AOL via their account security login settings page.
Thanks to everyone -- was driving me crazy, on my laptop I followed the suggestions for generating an app password. followed the prompts, called the app Outlook, cut and paste generated pwd into the account settings in outlook and a months worth of emails are currently recieving/sending. I did not change any other settings.
The best post so far. I was going crazy as well with all the above misleading posts until this.
It is true. AOL changed something in security settings.
Regular pswd is not working for the apps anymore.
My client (Thunderbird) was working until recently.
Without warning they changed the rules and now you need app password generated by mail.aol.com (web client).
After entering this generated password (copy/paste) all is working ok.
Thanks people for the community effort to fix this nonsense.
Same problem - browser works but Samsung, iPhone and PC Outlook not working.
Went to add a App Password through Google but it won't allow me to set one up without turning on 2-step verification which I don't want to do. Any way to work around this?
I am having the same problem.
What is the deal with info about a 3rd party password ???
Was there a solution to this problem?
Once again, AOL has broken access to my verizon.net email account. This is the 3rd time in less than 6 months. Today, for NO REASON, my home PC (Windows 10) and both iPhones stopped downloading email.
Previously it happened to my home PC 2x but the iPhones continued to work. Today all 3 stopped. I was able to access the email account online (web access) and saw the usual collection of emails.
During the last go-around, I had to call into AOL mail support. Took 3 levels of tech support and remote control of my PC for a "fix" to be implemented (app-specific password) to reinstate local email access for my Windows PC. I was also informed that in the future I would have to pay for their "support". Great company, break something and then charge to have it fixed.
Not sure what the outcome of today's fiasco will be. But I am not happy with this mickey mouse outfit and I will NOT be paying anything for future "support" from them.
Yes, I had the same experience with my Apple email client and iPhone password not being accepted (except if I used it to login to their website). The solution was to let AOL generate a new password for your account(s), copy and paste that password into your email client account settings on your computer and iPhone. I have not had a problem since.
Just sharing my experience. I've had a verizon.net email address for years which converted over to AOL. I've been using the Samsung email app on my Samsung mobile phone with no problem for years. Suddenly on 1/24/22 my emails stopped sync-ing on my phone and I couldn't send any either. I had not changed any settings and was completely frustrated for the past few days. I access my emails on my laptop via the AOL Mail website. After researching to troubleshoot, I changed my AOL Mail website password and then updated the same password in my email phone server settings. Still no emails sync-ing on my phone. Then I removed my verizon.net email account on my phone and added it back. While adding it back I selected the AOL logo which I think activates the updated secure sign-in capabilities. Success! And the email server settings on my phone were updated automatically during the process. I am now thinking I may not have had to change my password, but I'm happy to have email restored on my phone. Thanks for everyone sharing their ideas which helped prompt me to try some options. For what it's worth, I had received an email from AOL several month back saying they were implementing security changes effective 12/20/21, but I could not tell if it applied to my situation. The email was clear as mud. Since 12/20 passed with no issues, I thought all was ok. No such luck as the ramifications kicked in about a month later. Good luck to others dealing with this unexpected situation.
Not getting emails. I dont want to pay AOL.
i didnt change anything. Email is not downloading on MS Outlook or on my phone's email app. Hasnt worked since yesterday 7pm ET. Can anyone there help. AOL always wants money for help and I didnt change any settings. Other Verizon customers have issues too because I saw their posts. How can we get help?
I have been struggling with the same issue for several days, but have finally found a way of making things work again. My PC app for email is eM Client, but the solution may work well for other email programs. Here is what I did: On the app's menu I clicked "Accounts", and then "Add account". I tried the first option, "Automatic Setup", but it didn't work. So I went to the next option, "Mail". There I found icons of various mail providers, including AOL. I clicked AOL and followed the directions, using the same user name, email and password that I had used before. Lo and behold, it worked! I did the same for my wife's account, same result! The parameters have changed - for example, I now have imap instead of pop3. But I couldn't care less as long as it works! I suggest you try it with whatever app you are using and, if successful, post it here for others to use.
One of my two email accounts stopped working Jan 27th. Not accepting the password. Like so many others, don't remember seeing a notice about upcoming changes. I pay Verizon for this service so I don't care who the actual provider is. Having said that, our accounts were transferred to AOL services and have been working fine until Jan 27th. I've logged into the AOL site and tried the app password route, no change. Both accounts are set as POP and SMTP @verizon.net and as stated one account still works fine. Beginning to wonder if this has anything to do with the sale of AOL and Yahoo to private equity firm Apollo Global Management. Again to me this is still Verizon's issue as they are the one selling the service.
Verizon, whats the fix and what are your plans for internet e-mail services?
You changed your email client settings to imap and did not have to use the AOL One Time app password. Is this correct? Worth a try.
I did not change anything - I let the AOL icon do all the work. I only found out that pop3 was changed to imap when I looked at the new settings, after the system was working properly again.
The app password did it for me. It took me a while to figure out what that meant. It is in the settings of the aol account under account security, scroll to the bottom and generate the password, then copy it into email settings on your desktop. You have to do the same on your phone - use your web browser to login to aol, go into your account settings, etc. but my email is back!!
I did notice I had to login to AOL using my e-mail account that was having the issue, not the main AOL account. This is where the 3rd party password was created and used in my 3rd party mail clients on my PC and phone.
