Gizmo 3 - Cannot Activate

I'm setting up my kid's Gizmo 3 watch and I've tried scanning the QR code using the app and it just keeps saying that the phone number cannot be verified. Chat support is unavailable which is weird because throughout the process of thinking about buying this watch and actually ordering it, chat support was always available. Anybody else encounter this problem with a Gizmo?
