Gizmo Watch to Apple Watch

My son currently has a Gizmo Watch. We have an older Apple Watch (Series 7) with cellular that we would like to give him. Does this require a different plan than the Gizmo Watch plan? Is there a way to keep the Gizmo Watch number? How do we have make this switch from the Gizmo Watch to the Apple Watch (that I will run from my phone)?

You can set up an Apple Watch as a standalone device for your child. The steps to do so can be found here: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-234270/ The cost is $15.00 for the line and you can keep your Gizmo's phone number. We hope your child enjoys the switch from the Gizmo to the Apple Watch!

Thank you. These directions don't really tell me how to keep the Gizmo number - how do I do that? Do I need to cancel the Gizmo plan on my account as well and re-open a cellular plan for the apple watch?

You are very welcome, ArmyGrl08. You can activate the Apple Watch to the Gizmo number. This would be considered a device change. You can complete these steps online through your My Verizon account. Check out this video to help you get started, http://spr.ly/6605NpEc7.

I've tried this and it does not give me the option to do this with any of my watches - only the phones. It lists the watches under "other devices: Some of the devices are only manageable or ineligible to switch for various reason."

Hm. This must be because the Gizmo watch has limited capabilities (it doesn't have as much internet access as a regular smartwatch).  Someone at Verizon needs to upgrade the Gizmo watch line to a regular smartwatch line and then you would be able to put the Apple Watch onto that number.  Not sure which department is the best for handling this.  @vzw_customer_support - would that possibly be Inside Sales?  I have the number for that department in my notes, but don't want to give out incorrect information.
