Device Payment Buyout Charge

I payed off my devices so I could lower my phone bill from 170 to 115. And this month my bill is $180 with buyout charges??? Why am I being punished for paying off the device? I didn't plan to leave verizon. I just wanted a lower phone bill. With these crazy charges out of nowhere I might just switch. Im tired of saying this much a month.

This is really frustrating getting hit with a “device payment buyout” fee after you’ve already paid off the device feels like being punished for doing what you thought was allowed. According to Verizon’s own Device Payment FAQs, you can settle the remaining balance at any time without extra finance charges, so this surprise feels unfair. Others have reported very similar experiences on the Verizon forums (for example here: https://community.verizon.com/t5/property agents in London Billing-Payment-Archive/Device-Payment-Buyout-Charge/m-p/171018.8 Verizon should review your account, explain exactly why this charge appeared, and correct it if it’s in error.

That’s really frustrating to see , device buyout fees feel like surprise charges that shouldn’t show up without clear notice. I hope someone with deeper billing access can dig into your account and clarify exactly where that cost came from.

Speculation, but if the device was tied to a contract and you pay off the device early, it's considered breaking the contract and then there are early termination fee penalties to pay? But I do hope it's just an error and gets fixed.

I’m being told I need to have a forced buyout currently and I’ve been a customer for 3 months.. all devices were active and in good standing. Out of no where I’m being told my bill is 800 dollars and support has been telling the issue is going to be resolved for weeks. Now I’m being told they will suspend my service if it’s not paid.. Verizon’s customer service is next to none. They do not care about you.
